40th St Bridge to Millvale Park Physically separated bike lane!

If you have ever wanted to ride from Lawrenceville to Millvale now is the time to do it. PennDOT put up jersey barriers to connect the sidewalk on the bridge down to the park along East Ohio Street. It's a little slice of heaven. Go enjoy the park, grab a delicious croissant at Jean-Marc Chatellier's, or do some record shopping all by bike without fearing for your life!

Yeah, I saw that. Even on the traffic side, with the barrier right down the center of that right lane, there's plenty of riding space on that side, too! Must be even better on the curb side.

Just got back from a trip that involved this. What a sweet deal! The connection with the north shore trail under the railway is perfect. If this was permanent, I could see this as a fantastic way to get from lawrenceville/friendship/bloomfield to downtown (or especially the north side) without having to deal with traffic.

It certainly made hauling our broken 30 pound electric motor over to Millvale this morning…

At some point during the Rt28 project the City of Pgh needs to relocate a very large water main at the 40th St Bridge. I was told that when they do this they will close both sidewalks to pedestrians on the bridge.

I've been told that there will be a sidewalk going in where this lane exists now.

I hope they do make it permanent. I have never liked riding up the ramp out of Millvale with the lanes from 28 merging at that light.
