A hauntingly familiar sight featured on BSNYC

(Scroll down a bit...if you see an enraged kangaroo, you've gone too far.)

do not confuse Bumper Bike with Son of Bumper Bike.

Bumper Bike Dude was on Highland Avenue at Oh Yeah! when Flock of Cycles rode by. He didn't have his regular bike but had a Razor scooter he used to ride along with us for a while (I had to leave early...). That was pretty surreal.

I emailed BSNYC these photos a few months back and now regret not having submitted them for his cockpit contest. The following is what I wrote about this bike:

Note the twin front novelty license plates (#1 FAN for the Steelers and another one for the Penguins) attached to a front milk carton-cum-basket, all topped off by a stuffed animal wearing a red, white and blue neckerchief.

It only gets better: the basket contained a fine array of bizarre items, which (regrettably) I didn't inspect too thoroughly, though it does appear that a rusting automobile wheel hub is underneath the blue and white cloth.

The coup de grâce--or is it the pièce de resistance?--is really the longitudinally-mounted golf club, though. It appears to be an iron, and is secured with a bungee cord and the strategic angling of a quick release bar. Is bike golf the newest trend in non-racing bike sports, replacing bike polo? Is it for self-defense? Or is it to comment to passers-by smugly, "No fossil fuels coming from me--the only thing I'm driving is a golf ball?"

I'm guessing the golf club is for self defense. In some poor neighborhoods, you see old guys using putters as canes - you done't want to mess with a golf club.

I submitted some bumper bike pics to the cockie contest. Some of them were probably taken by you guys. I say if he ends up winning the coffee, we auction it off and give him the scratch. (which will be like ten bucks)

I actually had a few pretty long conversations with Aaron throughout the day. The more I get to know him, the worse I feel about his situation.

(He told me I need to, "take bumper bikes back to my family in China.")
