a car for the blind

maybe they could incorporate those non-visual interfaces into standard cars for sighted drivers and make us all safer. Since sighted drivers occasionally seem to be unable to actually look out the windshield to see the obstacles in front of them, perhaps a vibrating glove, puff of scented air, and audio alarm would get their attention. Or maybe it would just take up so much sensory cognizance that distraction wouldn't be an issue anymore.

edited to add - I think a blind person would make a fantastic driver - no preconcieved notion that driving is a right, not a privilege. Not yet.

We need an "app" that can text message the driver when they are about to run into something. This would save the driver the trouble of looking up from their phone and you know, actually driving.

I had a drivers ed. instructor in tenth grade who was once a Chicago limo driver. She claimed (and had no direct evidence) that she once had to drive Steevie Wonder around Chicago, and he insisted that he actually drive himself. She just had to tell him when to stop, and since the roads there are very flat and straight he didn't have to do much steering.

I don't know how true that is, but I like to think it actually happened.

It is pretty well known that Stevie Wonder did a commercial & billboard for MADD that said, in essence, "Before I ride with a drunk driver, I'll drive myself."

Maybe that commercial was more a to-do list than a cautionary tale.

Stevie Wonder is awesome.
