Aspinwall to North Park

Can anyone offer route tips and hazards to be aware of? I'd like to make the ride - i've driven it too many times, but I thought I'd get some two-wheel perspectives before I try it myself.

Thanks!

I'd go Squaw Run up over the hill towards Hartwood, and through the park to Middle Rd. Middle to Wildwood right into North Park. My folks live out there, that's how I tend to make the ride their direction.

If you're feeling adventurous and want to get some trail miles in you can pick up the Rachel Carson trail at McCully Rd near the Middle Rd intersection, which you can then follow the entire way into North Park. Just follow the yellow trail blazes on the trees.

I have a million ways.

How safe do you want? I could give you a way that

I would be comfortable carrying a kid on the back,

or a way that is safe for a beginner cyclist.

My way would be:

Freeport into shaprsburg.

right towards 8

Left at old blarneystone

Find little pine creek rd

take that to the end, and climb up wentzel (right)

(you can cut through the school)

Make the first left into the neighborhood keep climbing on volmer, turns into shaler, right at T

_ here i go mt royal for 3 blocks_

left on scott right clare, left sutter, right amity... Hit thomson run...

I usually just ride thomson run down to hubbard to sample to northgate to peebles to the park.

For a safer option from thomson run you can turn onto mcintire then cut through neighborhoods (write it all down) remington winchester... ... to babcock to kummer

um yeah

Thanks, Steevo.

On the safety scale, how bout somewhere between DON'T WANT TO GET GROUND INTO THE GUARDRAIL and THERE ARE RISKS I AM WILLING TO TAKE FOR A GOOD RIDE.

Reasonably familiar with Thompson Run and the adjacent neighborhoods - that first part will be a big help though.

I second the Steevo route -- it's almost exactly what I was going to post (love little pine creek road!). It's a nice ride!

I use most of Steevo's route, but I just take take Mt. Royal to Ferguson (left) to Duncan to Peebles--usually early in the morning though, maybe there's more traffic out there in the afternoon on Ferguson. It's been good. And ditto what Rocco says, Little Pine Creek is a great road to know about.
