bikes are a pain to carry by bike. there's a chance free ride has a trailer that you can use, or use as a model. some folks made one that's basically a car roof rack attached to wheels. i guess it only carries like 3 bikes at a time tho. i've used a kids trailer for years, and it did well as a cargo trailer until we used it on the keg ride a few years ago. it didn't do too well then.

the best luck i've had, unfortunately for you, is with a bikes at work trailer. i think i was able to haul around 9 bikes at once on that thing.

how many functional bikes do you have? i envision something like this- you need a few 2x4's or pieces of pipe, and some rope. take one pipe, and tie a functional bike's handlebars to each end of the pole (2 bikes, one at each end). then take another pipe, and lash it to either the seats, or frame above the rear triangle. you now have a 4 wheeled, square trailer "frame". tie a piece of plywood on top and load up any extra bikes or frames. figure out how ti hitch it up and you're done.

of course, i prefer DIY to buy, and you'll probably have ot make this a bit more stable fora longer move, but the basic concept should work.

an alternative would be to get your hands on a tandem. remove the back seat, and attach a piece of plywood in its place (think lash it to the rear fixed handlebar, and attached to an old seat or the seatpost somehow). voila a long wheelbase cargo bike.
