Bike Lockers Full!

I just got a call from Pitt parking services wondering if I really want to keep my bike locker, because apparently demand exceeds supply this quarter. Another one of those "good" problems.

While these parking people have told me various things in the past indicating how lucky I am to have a bike locker, this is the first time anyone bothered to call me. According to the person in charge of bike lockers, they have never before been at full capacity.

do you think that they're all really full this time? I hope so. I can't believe they were just using them for supplies before.

I doubt they are "full". There was an advert in The Pitt News about bike lockers, which seems like a positive move to me. I suspect they had a bunch of new students coming in asking about bike lockers and figured they would sort out the people who no longer wanted one.

I spend at least a few minutes changing shoes, moving stuff in panniers/bags, attaching lights, etc. twice a day, M-F. Other than me, I've only seen two people use them (each on more than one occasion). If they really are all rented, it seems like they aren't very well used around rush hour o'clock. Maybe people who live in dorms rent 'em to store their bikes?

My only other data point is when they wash them out in the spring and the maintenance guy removes the contents of every locker. Last time that happened I counted around 6 bikes, including mine at 9:30-10am on a Thursday morning.

The locker next to mine is still filled with boxes and crap from the 4-square club or whatever they call themselves.

I was a Pitt student (off-campus commuter) for a few years and didn't even know they had bike lockers! Granted, I didn't seek them out, but there certainly wasn't much advertising.

Maybe they could buy a few more.
