SOUTH HILLS, Pa. -- Police are investigating two smash-and-grab robberies at bicycle stores in the South Hills.

According to investigators, the thieves smashed front store windows to steal two bikes from the TRM Bike Store along Route 88 in Castle Shannon and five from Pro Bikes along Fort Couch Road in Bethel Park. Each bike was worth as least $1,000.

The biggest loss is a state-of-the-art Specialized Demo 7 downhill bike worth $4,000. It was stolen from the Pro Bikes store.

"It's pretty," said Pro Bikes manager Jeremy Goldman. "Very few bike shops will have a bike of this style."

Goldman said riders typically dress in full body armor and a helmet to ride the specialized bike downhill as fast as they can.

"The glass was broken open," said Sgt. Clifford Snitzky. "Detectives were called to the scene. Hopefully we will have something soon," he said.

Detectives said evidence was left at the scene of one of the crimes. Bike shop workers told Channel 11 News that the piece of evidence was a cell phone.

So far, no arrests have been made, but investigators said they are searching for either a bike enthusiast or an eBay thief.
