Black ice on top of hill by the zoo (one wild place?)

I was on the bus coming up the hill and right as we were getting to round the last bend there was a cyclist who obviously sliid out on the ice. He seemed to be ok but maybe a bit stunned, eh was slowly grabbing his bike and heading to the curb when a car came around the bend heading downhill, saw him and slammed on the brakes and slid sideways. Another car came down behind the first one and did the same thing and hit the first car. Luckily all seemed to be ok, although the two cars seemed to be locked together and had to block the roadway and wait for a tow truck.

I was sitting on the bus for a minute wasiting for the anti-bike talk to come out (he shouldn't be there riding and whatnot) but to my surpise I didnt hear any of that from the other people on the bus. I jumped off, offered any help and when I couldnt do anything, pulled my bike off the rack and pedaled away. Another benefit to using mixed mode transit!

Thansk for the warning. Hope the cyclists has nothing worse than a little road rash. I hope the drivers are ok, too. Car repair issues are among my least favorite to deal with. (And yes, I could avoid that issue by going car free, but that is not going to happen for me.....)

That little stretch is deadly. I used to commute that way every day and Highland Park was always the worst part of the drive and that turn was ice even if nothing else was.

I take Baker down by the zoo entrance sometimes but usually by the side near the 62nd St bridge instead. There seems to be water or ice at the top and bottom of one wild place all of the time.
