BTWD 2012 - Where would you like to see "Hydration Stations"?
We have started planning this year's Bike to Work Day (BTWD) over here at BikePGH, and we would like to get some ideas from you:
Where would you like to see hydration stations on BTWD? Can you think of any intersections in Pittsburgh's neighborhoods that would be convenient for you and other bicycle commuters to stop by on their way into work or coming home from work?
Hydration stations will have beverages, snacks, educational materials, as well as special BTWD offers.
We know that every day is "Bike to Work Day" for some of you, but this will be a fun event and is important for bringing attention to bicycling in the City of Pittsburgh. We would love your input! Thanks!

+1 on Point State Park. Also, how about something at the trail heads (jail trail and southside trail for example) for people who might park and ride into downtown.

I personally enjoy Market Square... seems a bit more central for people who work downtown.

An idea, not sure how important, is one on the North Side, maybe near Federal & North, maybe Cedar & E Ohio.

1. Curbside in front of the Carnegie Library Main Branch in Oakland.
2. Somewhere on Squirrel Hill - either between the bike shops or under the Forbes Ave overhang of the public library.
3. S. Highland Ave, near the Shadow Lounge.

RE: North Side - maybe you can set up in the park where they have the farmers' market?
Strip district - perhaps where the farmers' market in the parking lot of the Firehouse Lounge?
It seems that any place that they hold a farmers' market would be a good spot for a hydration station.
I also like M² (since I'm right there and all), but Point State Park would be cool as well.

I agree with Hyla about the CLP Main hydration station; the one across from the O last year was cool too, though.

I would think the issue with CLP would be the relative difficulty of getting there if you are heading inbound through Oakland. It might be better to do on the ground around the Cathedral of Learning, as a cyclist traveling any direction can get there without doubling back much.

For oakland, I would second the suggestion to put a stop by the cathedral near bigelow blvd, since this is accessible to both inbound and outbound riders.

You might be surprised how many cyclists are on the library side...CMU, Pitt & Oakland are also accessed from Squirrel Hill via Schenley Drive & from South Oakland via Bouquet. Maybe Schenley Plaza is a good hi-viz spot from all points.

Morrow Park? That's the little wedgelet of green space where Liberty, Baum, Center & Aiken cross paths. Or, First Unitarian on Ellsworth.
