Cars parking in Brighton Road bike lane

(I'm not sure if this has been discussed here before--is there a search function in the "new" board design?). Cars are regularly parked in the Brighton Road bike lane between California Avenue and Marshall Avenue (near the Urban Gardener and Breadworks). I call the police to report it each time I see it. Last week I was relayed the message from an officer at the Zone 1 police station that unless it is marked No Parking, cars are free to park in the bike lane. Can this possibly be true? As I'm sitting here I can't recall if the bike lane has posted No Parking signs or not. If this is true (and if there aren't any No Parking sings), what's the point of having a bike lane here? If this is not true, regardless of the No Parkign sign situation, how can we get cars to stop parking here, if the police don't seem to think it's illegal?

Start with 311.

311 just tells you to call 911 for illegal parking - I've been down that road quite a few times. And zone 1 officers are the worst at responding to anything that does not involve a gun. YMMV

There's a "Search the Forums" box in the right hand column (though perhaps not if you view the site with a narrow window, as it changes its look then). It sounds like you need to ask 311 to prohibit parking on that stretch, and put up signs to that effect. Otherwise the bike lanes mean "ride here unless there are cars parked". Unfortunately Pittsburgh has too many bike lanes like that.

It needs to be logged on 311, and you can do that by using the web form. they do say to call 911. It's also worth a letter or email to the councilperson there, Darlene Harris, especially if she's gotten complaints that "my parking space is now a bike lane."

Yeah, I was dealing with the same problem during the fall semester If memory serves me right, an older Cadillac usually parks around there People occasionally park in the bike lane across from the school too Never made a point to complain about it, which apparently results in no action anyways. Thanks again, PBP! Also, didn't they issue tickets on Neville for the same offense? Apparently Zone 1 has different laws

For what it's worth, it's Darlene Harris up to Pennsylvania/Sampsonia, Daniel Lavelle from there to Oliver High, and then Harris again beyond the cemeteries.
