commute 837/51 from southside to sheraden

hi, i was testing out my new commute today, and there's this part between the southside and sheraden. anyone have experience riding 837/51 during rush hour, opposite city-worker traffic? should i just rack on the 26A in downtown for that half of the trip? i commuted to my old job through 4 winters, and i don't wanna stop just because of a few extra miles.

I rode from the Hot Metal to West End Bridges last week. Riding through Station Square isn't difficult, but there's a lot of foot traffic. The sidewalk on West Carson is preferable to the street, but much glass. Theoretically, you could stay on that sidewalk down to the Corliss Tunnel. Chartiers St isn't wonderful, but not horrible either, though the short tunnel is (to me) a bit claustrophobic.

Best place to hop a bus in town is in front of the Hilton. From there, 26A, 26D, 33X and 100 would all get you to Sheraden.

I work in Robinson and I ride through Station Square, all the way past the parking lots. If you want to catch a bus from there, there is a stop just to the right. I only ride on Carson a couple blocks to the West End Circle, most of the time it's not bad but sometimes it's sheer terror, especially in the evening. Sometimes I'll cross over to the sidewalk but even that is no picnic.

If you don't want to continue out Carson you can take the circle to Steuben St. then make a right on Chartiers. I've been riding that way sometimes and Chartiers is actually a pretty good street for riding - not too busy and plenty wide.
