Does the Future Liberty Ave. include any changes to 40th?

Curious if the changes to Liberty Ave will include any work to the intersection of 40th and Liberty.

That is a high stress intersection and I never know where to ride. If I ride in the main lane of traffic I am holding back traffic and if I ride in the turning lane the one car that wants to turn is pissed (had an incident today).

That whole stretch of road from the Bloomfield bridge to the bike lane at 40th is high stress and terrible. I hate it.

When I used to use that route, My solution was to pedal all out .. 25+mph .. in the right lane till I got close to the light then split the lane.

The crossing lady always was nice tho.

i haven't looked at the work orders in awhile (the city received them over a year ago), but there is supposed to be a work done to help with that transition

If you're going straight through, you should be in the through lane. Being delayed a few seconds here and there is just part of driving in the city, and they can live with it. Besides, they'll have lots of room to pass you, less than 30 yards down the road, and they'll make up every one of those seconds.

Some people prefer to ride just to the right of the lane line, at the left edge of the right lane, which makes it reasonably clear that you're not turning and leaves more room between you and the faster traffic to your left than it leaves between you and the slower traffic to your right.

It's not much out of my way, if you want to bikepool it in the mornings.

Lyle, I usually let the cars go by on my left and take up a little of the turning lane but today I was buzzed way to close for my comfort by a guy who couldn't wait the five second it would have taken me to clear the intersection and make it to the bike lane.

Yeah, that's what happens when you try to share a lane with people who don't believe in sharing

:(

I don't mind it so much if they cruise up slowly next to me, it's the high-speed buzz that's assy.

i didn't realize how difficult that stretch was until last week when i tried to take a n00b through it. normally, i just burn from the light at main, staying to the right (using those pipe caps to traverse the canyons in the road) and merge into the main lane of traffic before getting to the parked cars, then keep the left lane through the light. i'm generally going as fast as i can, and since it's slightly downhill, i've never really slowed anyone down, and never had an incident. but then i was with someone who wasn't interested in going fast, and it was indeed high stress. i still recommend just taking the lane at the 40th st. intersection, though.
