I like my dual pivot brakes better than the old single pivot. They are easier to adjust and stay in place better.

Dual Pivot over Single Pivot
Greetings folks,
I've got some old timey brakes on my 80's Schwinn that's a single pivot
I'm wondering if I should upgrade to a bolt through dual pivot?

Jona is correct. I would have felt compelled to say that dual pivots are also more powerful at one time, but a single pivot in the rear will make the tire skid just fine.
I'd go double pivot in the front, single in the rear unless the bike is really nice and warrants a full upgrade.

I've run all three setups at one time or another. I have a dual front, single rear configuration on my Merckx, and double front and rear on my Raleigh; both are Campagnolo setups, and the mixed braking system is a common and deliberate option with many of their groups.
My experience is that a pair of dual pivot brakes provides ample stopping power with good modulation. The mixed system is somewhat less powerful, with better modulation in wet conditions.
Either combination will stop you with more urgency than the single pivot brakes on 80s era brakes with greater control.
