Elevation map program

I think this was here.

Someone, a week ago or so, had a link to a map program that would give the elevation for any place on the map that put the pointer on.

It was really cool, but I lost the link.

Thanks

That's cool, but not it.

It was a program where the mouse pointer became a littel circle and would give the elevation for what you were pointing at.

Also cool Edmunds, but not what I'm looking for.

I must have run into it some other forum (possibly a swimming forum, with triathletes involved).

This looked like google maps (may have been an ap for google, I dunno), but the pointer would tell you how high the place you were pointing at was.

It's frustrating because I spent about an hour playing with the thing and talked about it to friends and now I can't find it.

Thanks, though. All these programs will get the job done!

Google Earth will do exactly that (tell you the elevation of a given point you've got the cursor on) as well as the latitude and longitude. It's a standalone program, not a website or web-based app.

But be careful if you start creating "places" in Google Earth and back them up. The file that stores those placemarkers and routes was corrupted on my computer and I lost over a year's worth of plotted-out bike routes and other places. Sigh...

I believe Google Maps labs has an option that gives the pointer latitude and longitude and maybe elevation.
