Should be fun. T-storms not predicted 'til after midnight, temps nice and cool.

I'm out for tonight...hanging with kids, then driving to Altoona late.

Damn, I wish I could come. I haven't had a good ride in a month, and it'll probably be my last ride on this bike before I sell it.

I need to take my dog out though, she's been cooped up inside all week.

Are you replacing it? You aren't giving up on the woods are you?

dirt is mean & trees are evil,

2012-09-29 04:44:49

Trees don't text. And dirt is softer than asphalt.

I like dirt.

I'll be joining you all in the future, but on my first ever mountain bike outing last week, I killed my front wheel. I should be back in business by next week! And I do need to learn some skills obviously.

OT - Shawn, I need to get your tools back to you. LMK when would be a good day to meet up, and I'll bring them with me.

Oops, just saw this.

I haven't given up on dirt, I just wasn't particularly fond of how the Trek handled switchbacks and other slow speed things. I always questioned why many mfgs don't put out a small sized 29er, but I gave it a shot anyways. Long story short, I think the compromises made don't fit how/where I ride. I'm sure if I rode somewhere other than Frick, where the trail opens up a little and is more flowy, I wouldn't have this complaint.

I picked up an On One Whippet frame which has a steeper HT angle and shorter chainstays. It's built for 26" wheels, but it seems to be a good platform for 650b conversion. I'm a sloppy rider and could use the larger wheels.

I honestly don't know what will happen since I'm changing 10 variables at once, but I'm hoping for the best. The new bike also satisfies my need to tinker. :)

RR you may want to head out to settler's cabin instead of frick.

the trails out there are a bit more open, fun stuff but it isn't 900 miles of switchback crammed into 35 sq feet.

Bavington, man. Flowy.

That kid has sick skills, but the running commentary/disbelief is what makes that video awesome. What was he riding, a 16 inch bmx?

"Can you see OK?"

"No, I don't have to pee."

I have a 4yr old. That part of the video gave me lols.

@cburch watching 8-10 year olds throw tail whips over doubles lets me know how weak my trail bike-fu is.

sure they can throw tail whips. but can they outrace a pat bus thru rush hour?

2012-10-07 00:56:19

Well they were 6 and 8 in that video and considering that they are both national champs in bmx racing they probably could beat a bus through town.

Also I'm doing a night ride out at bavington tomorrow night. It's a great place to get introduced to night riding as the trails are nice and flowing and much less technical than frick.
