friday nights at the track!

oscar's doing everyone a great service by running the friday night tt/track nights. this week is track night! come out and help support this! it's definitely a lot more fun when (a) more people ride and (b) people show up to hang out and watch!

i'm definitely up for some time this year having a bbq afterwards like we've had in years prior, but first some people need to show up. to quote oscar, "We could use 6-10 more participants to improve group adhesion in some of the longer events" and i agree completely!

so go to the pmvc's site and check it out! 6:00 reg, 6:30 racing! totally awesome!

Check it!

I've got a 17t cog stuck on my rear wheel, plus I ain't in racing spirits. But I'll try to make it to cheer you on this week.

Question (s)

Brakes y/n?

What kinda gearing can I get away with? I've got 42-16.

Brakes are a no-no.

42x16 will be too light. Last time I was there, I had 45x13 or somesuch, and even that was a little light.

I used a 42x14 last time and the gearing was too small. Switching to 48x14 for this week.

49x15 always felt about perfect.

i like to barbecue.

what do you think about showing 6 day race or something, after a friday race sometime? we talk about it every year, but never do it. i have a projector

Urrg, I've got a crank with a dumb bcd (144, not a track crank though) on my fixed bike right now, only have on ring for it. Only one cog too.

Maybe I'll come down for the BBQ.

didn't oscar used to bring a spare bike?

erok

no bbq this week, it's just an idea that i'm throwing around.

in terms of gearing, i've found that 51x15 is my perfect gear. i'm a bit more of a masher, but it's big enough that i can keep speed up and not tire too much from spinning out, but it's light enough that i can accelerate it quickly if i need to. it worked well for me at t-town, it seems fine for me here.

no spare bikes.

but i dunno, let's say, we shoot at july 10 for a post race bbq and i dunno, maybe sometime around bikefest as well?

steve-k

that would rule. i'll bring hot dogs

This seems interesting, but I know absolutely nothing about bicycle racing. I checked out the website, but I am still not sure.

I don't want to sound stupid, but can someone fill me in....?

ndromb

i've never raced, but have gone to watch (which is fun), and learned a lot about how it works

hey ndromb, i did the friday night at the track for the first time on friday. i've never raced either. it was fun and a great work out. if you're interested you should show up and race, or at least watch. there was only 10 people there racing so it's not too competitive. all the races are explained and for me re explained before you even begin. it was cool.

Cool. I probably won't make this week because of the BFF, but I'll try for next week.

I can't have bullhorns, right?

Is the bbq still on for the track night this friday?

johndon

looks doubtful - gallery crawl this friday and a lack of preparation on my part is putting this bbq on hold.

races are still on tho because oscar rules!
