FS: Bianchi Castro Valley
I'll post pics/more details this weekend, but wanted to gauge interest.
In order to finance another toy (a tandem for better riding with the kids), I'm unloading my commuter.
Bianchi Castro Valley (54 or 56 cm, I think), 2x9, with dynamo hub/headlight/tailight, 35 mm tires, aluminium fenders integrated with front and rear stainless VO racks, FSA Metropolis bars with Shimano bar-ends mounted as thumb shifters, Avid V-brakes, Pinhead locking front skewer and seatpost bolt. I'll include the teeny-tiny drop bars with which it came, and I might even have an old pair of 35mm studded tires to throw into the mix.
It's well-used...got six or seven years of use, although the drivetrain is new-ish with only 1000-1500 miles or so. Plenty of dings and scratches that I shan't dignify with the term 'beausage'.
Looking for $500, or $450 + a $25 Bike-PGH donation.

2 questions: what kind of dynamo hub? and are you willing to separate said wheel from the rest of the bike (I could provide a non-dynamo replacement wheel to keep the bike sellable as a complete package)?
bonus question: is the rear light integrated into the fender or is it a clamp/bolt-on type?

As it happens, I have another 700c wheel with the same dynamo...rim's elderly-but-usable...we can talk about that offline if you're interested. The rear light is a bolt-on designed to go on a metal fender( see the fender taillights shown here)...it's got a curved back with a peg and a bolt designed to go through a couple of small holes drilled in the fender.

Well, I'd prefer to sell the bike as a unit. However, if someone wants the bike sans front wheel and lights, I'd be willing to drop the price by $50 and sell the lights and wheel separately.
[ETA:] To clarify, in that case, there would be for sale:
a bike with no front wheel or lights ($450/$400+$25 Bike-PGH donation);
a dynamo wheel with headlight and tail light ($50);
and another dynamo wheel($35) up for grabs.
But buyers interested in the whole bike get preference, of course.

This doesn't by any chance have a very, very short stem? Most likely wouldn't work anyway, total impossibility if it's a 56. It's just so tempting and limited selection at 52 for used bikes has really been a problem.

It’s just so tempting and limited selection at 52 for used bikes has really been a problem.The bike is frankly far too small for me (I'm 5'10"); however, I have shortish legs, so the overall height was right, and I didn't know any better until I rode one that was the right size. It may be worth a try. I may have one or two spare stems floating around that could be swapped in; alternatively, I could swap the FSA metro bars for a set of Promenades, which would bring the grips way back. I'm going to be puttering around the house (Brighton Heights, North Side) Sunday morning and early afternoon, so drop me a PM if you'd like to swing by and take a peek.

That's a sweet deal! If I wasn't already over budget on my Paramount build, I'd jump on this just to accessorize my 520 and use the Volpe frame as a local commuter. Cheers to the eventual owner (and to a rock'n new tandem).
What are you looking for tandem-wise?
For the record, and already built up dynamo wheel can be had brand new for $200, see Handspun WE7246... not going to beat $35! O.o

Rode the bike yesterday. Dan, thanks for indulging me with an extended test ride on a beautiful, beautiful day.
It's pretty neat, has a lot of good features, and Scott, it's a 52, so great for us umpa lumpas.
But I've decided (or rather, a large bill in the mail last night decided) that now isn't the time for me to upgrade.
Sigh, everyone else go at it.

If this is still available, could I take a look at it this weekend?
I am looking for a back up bike to my commuter, and this MIGHT fit the bill. I am concerned about the size (I am 5'5", with a 31-32 inch inseam length) and a little concerned about the 9 gears.
Otherwise, it mostly fits what I am looking for. I think. (See my thread on upright riding position from a day or two ago.)
