Someone recently posted that they'd found a pair of goggles that fit over their glasses. I'm going out of my mind trying to find the thread - please say it again! What were they? How do you like them? (I'm interested for when we get super-cold weather, like last week. The rest of my body is set, but my eyes tear up and the tears freeze on my lashes. Awkward.)
I have never found goggles that don't fog. I prefer prescription wraparound eye shields, like Oakleys.
Safety glasses might provide enough restriction to prevent tearing but still allow enough airflow to prevent fogging, as long as you keep moving.
(Though I do remember some ski goggles with battery-powered fans in them, for the ultimate in dorkaliciousness.)
I bought a *cheap* pair of motorcycle goggles with the foam padding at a flea market to try. I think an expensive pair would be built pretty much the same. Anyhow, I should have bought the fleas.

My god, Lyle, do you have my number. Although, with the prescription shields, I'm sure I'd end up having to wear them when I get to where I'm going. I'm at (or past) the limits of my memory capacity as far as what I need to do/bring when I get on a bike (even with little lists I make for myself). What needs to be on this bike that's still on the last bike I was on? What needs to go into my bike pack that was in my backpack if my last venture out was on foot? Was it? Not sure. etc. One more item to remember, even if it's my glasses, and I think my brain's going to shut down, causing my glasses to end up sitting on my desk or somewhere just as useful, when I hit the road. And it may be that walking around wearing a performance shield trumps riding with fan-goggles, in the dorkaliciousness dept. I'll have to check on that though.
There are totally ski goggles out there that don't fog. I'm also 80% sure that they make ski goggles that will fit over glasses, and they are marked as such (my dad has had a pair).
I'm also very interested in this, I have huge problems with my glasses fogging up - I'd say it's my by far my biggest problem with riding in the cold/snow/rain.
Back in the day I used to wear soft contacts so I didn't have these problems. Now, I have to wear specialty hard lenses that are wicked expensive ($300/ea i think). I hardly ever wear them but even if I did I'd need to wear glasses or goggles to keep debris out (and keep them from blowing away when I turn my head)
Lyle, any more details on the prescription option - do they not fog up?
BTW, I could also use a solution for SCUBA diving. I've only gone once but I was afraid to wear my contacts for fear of losing them. I had an old pair of soft contacts I used but it wasn't great.
The cat crap stuff *does help a lot, you just have to keep reapplying it (every couple o days). Dr Bronners liquid magic soap also works, just doesn't last as long as the cat crap. In either case, put a very thing layer inside the lens, then buff it dry. Not perfect, but very helpful. That and weird mouth gymnastics under the balaclava.

i have a beard, but it doesn't help with my glasses - although i could see it being worse if i wore a balaclava.
if it's just cold, i'm usually fine - but going up a hill the combination of slow speed + exertion can cause fogging.
of course precip is a whole other matter, but maybe there's not really anything you can do about that...

There are no gentle versions of minimizing something that concerns someone, and/or suggesting they do the same. I'm not saying Colin was doing that - I'm just really averse to the whole notion.

erok started it a long time ago and I found it & revived it again when I started having the fog problem
My response was more of a reference to the ultimate balaclava thread in which I claimed that my beard was in fact the ultimate balaclava. Keeps my face warm and toasty and let's me breath away from my goggles. Beard plus skate helmet plus mx goggles is the best winter combo I have ever found. I have a collection of masks balaclavas and buffs to prove how many things I tried before doing the easiest thing, not shaving. If you are a lady or just have a ladyface i guess it's not much help though.

My prescription sunglasses generally don't fog up unless it's raining (and then I'm probably not wearing them). They do fog up if I stop moving after working hard in the cold, but as long as I keep moving they stay reasonably clear. Up a hill... hm. They might fog up, I don't recall. Cross-country skiing this weekend they were fogging up on me.
I once saw a kind of partial shield that fastened to your helmet. That wouldn't fog up.
