Got the license plate number, now what?

Got run off the road today, and actually managed to get the license plate of the vehicle. People are always saying to do this when an incident or near-miss happens. So, what should I do? File a police report?

I wasn't actually hit, but was run off the road (as in, I jumped the curb because I thought I was going to be hit). Then I had the pleasure of following them the rest of the way down Negley, during which I memorized the plate #. I don't think there's anything to report here, but you all know best!

Yes. If the driver ends up eventually hitting somebody there will at least be a paper trail of stupid driving. What part of Negley was it?

That's what I was thinking--paper trail. It was about halfway down the giant hill. I admittedly was going quite slow, but THE LIGHT AT THE BOTTOM WAS RED!

What was the make and color of the car. It could be a frequent offender.

Small black sports car. Sorry, I'm terrible with identifying make/model/and the like.

I'd call it in.

If we had a 4' law, they'd have broken it (though it could turn into a he-said-she-said kind of thing). I'd stop by the local precinct and ask (or call it in)

We have a safe-passing law, which he or she did break. No hypothetical counterfactual required.

+1 for adding to the paper trail.

If the perp ever got to court on another case, it would be a gift to the prosecution to have a witness saying "When he ran me off the road this other time, it seemed deliberate." (even though, my quote there as written, is probably not admissible evidence.)

SCARY stuff!

Glad to hear you are OK.

I would call it in too if you haven't already.

I did call it in later last night. The officer said that since it was a non-emergency, there was currently an electrical storm going on, and it had happened several hours ago, that they weren't going to come out but I should make a report.

I didn't make it to a police station this morning and I work until at least 8pm tonight, but I've found two places to report "tips" online: here and here. Filled out the first and plan to fill out the second and cross-reference them. I'm not sure if the online systems generate an actual police report that will leave a paper trail, though--anyone know more?

Thanks!

oh good tip I might use this as well. Thank you.

I had some douche do that to me there once. I stupidly spent the length of negley pulled up beside his car arguing with the guy, instead of just getting his plate.
