Helmet cam?

Yesterday I was nearly clipped by some jerk in his SUV. When I confronted the driver, he flipped me off and said "Get off the road"

I opted to move on with my morning commute, rather than respond the this moron...

I have decided to buy a helmet camera so I can document my daily commute. If I I had been hit by this guy, it would have been nice to have a video record of the event so I could sue the pants off him.

More importantly I want to film the wonderful scenery that I pass by on my morning ride. Soooo.

Any suggestions on a helmet cam? Key features are size, weather proof, and ability to capture some level of images during low light commutes.

As always thanks for the help

@eppi +1 on filming the scenery.

I semi-regularly have a young buck run along side me as I trudge up McArdle. I'd love to get some footage of that, since I've had people question my eyes and sanity on that one!

(I do stop and take a photo every time I'm on Grandview. At some point I'm going to turn it into a video....)

REI has an Oregon Scientific helmet cam on sale for $79 or so. Reviews are not great, but then go on to describe poor sound quality, or poor video quality in low light conditions. REI has a great return policy, so might be worth trying it out.

I have an Oregon Scientific helmet cam. Actually, I have two because I bought another when I thought I had lost the first. It's not bad for what it is and, yes, it does not register well in low light.

I've got a bike commute video here

And my channel has a few other paintball guncam videos so you can judge the sound and realtime video quality.

I also have some still frame captures at

I'll loan one to you if you want.

Your video makes me think of an film I saw (perhaps in school) that showed the train ride from London to Brighton in 4 minutes. (Found it here!)

Anyway, since today is apparently my day to order bike stuff (also got heart rate and cadence sensors), I went ahead and ordered this. For the price, even if its not fantastic, it'll let me decide if I want to spend more on a more full featured one.

There are some really useful reviews of some of the latest helmet cameras and at a range of prices and specifications at http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/reviews_of_helmet_cameras

They highlight the good, but also the not so good features of each so you might find them helpful!
