WPW and other cycling friends: I’ve posted Icycle Bicycle 2014 on the WPW calendar today. Here is the posting: Ride: Icycle Bicycle 2014 Location: REI at Southside Works Date and Time: 1/1/2014 - Gather by 10:45 AM to sign in for insurance purposes, leave at 11 AM. Ride description: We meet at REI in Southside works nominally at 10:45 AM, with the ride leaving at 11 AM. Hot beverages graciously provided by REI. Exact route and distance depends on weather conditions. A baseline route is here: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3784056 - From Southside works we ride to the Western End Bridge, then through the North Shore area to the 31st Street Bridge. Then along Penn and Grant Streets back to the Mon and then back to the Southside. Roads will likely be safer than trails in icy conditions, but we will play it by ear. Helmets required to ride and all riders please sign in for insurance purposes when you arrive. WPW club members and friends, let's pick a local restaurant for an open seating lunch afterwards - likely Claddagh, maybe Hofbräuhaus. Ride organizer - Jim Logan - jimlogan@verizon.net - 412-580-8575. When you see Marc Yergin on the ride, thank him for his many years of helping organize this ride. We will likely ride regardless of conditions, even if it is just around the block. For last minute updates, check the WPW website at www.wpwbikeclub.org As you all know, when I organize rides, what you see is what you get. We need this help to make the ride successful: - Please publicize this ride to all your bicycling contacts, whether social media, email lists, or in person. - For those with media contacts, please let them know we ride again on New Year’s Day for 2014 and invite them to come cover the event. It’s a festive time. - We’ll need several volunteers to help sign people in. - We’ll need riders in the group to take accountability to helping keep all riders safe and obeying traffic laws. If we get separated into different groups, feel free to make your own route. This is about enjoying the day and everyone getting back safe. - We explicitly invite other clubs and riding organizations to participate. Let’s all come out and celebrate the New Year. Jim Logan WPW

Good weather for an Icicle Bicycle. Seems to me there’s potential for a Pittsburgh Biathlon, i.e., Polar Bear Plunge + Icicle Bicycle. Timing would work out.Did you see those people taking a swim in the Mon at that park? Man that looked COLD!
