Idaho Test joins Idaho Stop

Boise Bicycle Accident leads to change on Idaho’s driving test You can expect at least one question -- maybe more -- on Idaho driving laws about bicycles on your driving test beginning in the next few weeks. The Idaho Department of Transportation has added more questions to the pool after five-year-old Max Wyatt, of Boise, was struck by a car and dragged last September. He came home from the hospital earlier this month. "I think it is fair to say this tragedy kind of opened the discussion," said Steve Grant, an ITD spokesman. Questions about car and bicycle laws have always been a part of the driving test, but it was possible to get a test that did not have a question on it, Grant said. Now, people taking the written test can expect to see one. The change will happen in the next few weeks. Read more here: http://www.idahostatesman.com/news/local/article51208785.html#storylink=cpy

What is it about Idaho that makes this possible? I wonder if there's some approach that works there, which we could duplicate here.

Do drivers have to re-take the drivers after a period of time in Idaho? If not, then this is a victory that will take a long time to have much significance. It will be decades before the majority of Idaho drivers have been tested on a number of bicycle related laws.

Would we even need to change state law? Who's in charge of what goes on the test? Adding some questions to the pool and ensuring that some number of them get asked, even if only one, would be a major help.
