In need of positive, supportive comments

One thing the bike/ped community can always be a huge help on is making positive comments, and writing positive letters to the editor about biking & walking initiatives. We need a groundswell of support in this battle against small mindedness. Here's a perfect example: http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/opinion/perspectives/bike-sharing-is-just-the-start-pittsburgh-must-continue-to-provide-more-and-better-transportation-alternatives-681018/ I should add, thanks Stu!

Seems like a silly thing to have to say, because of course it's true, but Scott's post is spot on - O'Connor just posted that he voted for bikeshare and teh crazies came out. So politically (if I may) I have serious qualms about family dynasties (Bush, Clinton, Ravenstahl, O'Connor) because in America we're not supposed to have royal families, I believe that good people died to get us out of that habit. But having said that, this young politico takes the fairly rational and (in a sane world) non-militant vote in favor of bikeshare and the lunatics came out. The same fools we've read before, last week I saw a bicyclist behaving badly, the roads are for motorised vehicles, they don't pay taxes, they can do whatever they want and we have to miss them, the drivers are the victims, yada yada ugg. So this kid takes a vote that shouldn't be a random act of courage and yet he's losing political ground over it, and in situations like that I'd like to suggest it's in "our" interest as bicyclists to represent our perspective and buoy the politico up. Not in a flaming combative way that identifies the politician with us anarchist two-wheelers, but in a positive constructive way. Take a look at that Facebook page, it's informative. I guess I could have been briefer and just written: What Scott said.

I'm not even going to go reading whatever negative comments there may be, no good will come of it. This is a country of idiots. But for gods sake yes, if you've got the stomach for it, go send positive comments.

I wrote him a message of appreciation and encouragement, to please continue supporting the sport and expansion of needed infrastructure. Thanks for the heads up!
