Just before Memorial Day, I found a ~4 week old kitten in the middle of the Riverton Bridge. It was almost dead from exposure. It's very friendly, and it's not at all afraid of humans. I found it in the morning. The vet guessed that it had been out all night to be in the condition it was in. Very sadly, I can only think of one way that such a young kitten, who was already used to other people, could end up in a spot like that.
Kitten On Riverfront Trail
This morning on my commute to work, I saw a very cute grey-striped kitten on the SS riverfront trail as I approached 9th street.
It looked to be in the 2-3 month old range and by its appearance someone (or something) has been feeding it and grooming it. I didn't see a collar or anything that looked like an identity tag.
It didn't seem afraid of humans, so I don't think it is feral... so if you've heard of anyone missing a kitten that matches the description, that might be a place to look.
Or, if you cycle on the trail, keep an eye out for a very cute cat in the middle of the trail.
My friend was kayaking by one of the bridges downtown and saw something fall from the bridge into the water... it was a kitten that some jagoff threw from their car window. Happy ending though, my friend rowed over, fished the cat out, and one of the kayak stand guys adopted it
this thread makes me hate people more than i already did.
I picked up a 5 week old kitten from the side of I-270 a few weeks ago.
I named him Eisenhower, after the Eisenhower Memorial Parkway I found him on.
I desperately want that cat. But I'm too young to be a cat lady. Also my landlord wouldn't approve of a third cat.
My wife vetoed the name "Riverton" and declared that the kitten is named "Pee Wee".
@Rubber Factory, I think four (or is it five?) is the minimum feline requirement to achieve Cat Lady status. Plus the sweater factor, hair, and droopy socks. You're probably in the clear.
I dunno, I feel like it's all about attitude, and I'm there. My cats are my babies, and they act like they're my 3-year-old children.
Every morning before I leave for work, I yell into the house, "Bye, babies, I love you, I'll miss you."
Then at around 11am, I start thinking, "I miss my cats."
I'm pretty much there already, haha.
I think there's one final step, put a basket on your bike and take a cat for a ride.
i married a cat lady. and @jz i think i have the diabeetus now. thanks.

There are feral cats next door tome (between my place and Impala's). Most visible are two kittens that look like they were just weaned. They wrestle with eachother and sleep in a pile.
Anyone know what it takes to tame a feral kitten? I'm guessing it might be a Bad Idea®.
get them inside early and spend lots of time with them. early and consistent socialization is about it.
I agree with @cburch, when I was living in Du Bois I lived on a street that was a magnet for abandoned animals. It takes time, but is well worth it.
I will say that if you already have animals, keep the feral animals isolated until you can get them to a vet. There are lots of diseases out there that are not evident for a long, long time. FPV can lay dormant for years, for example.
I've seen no sign of the cat that started this conversation... I'm hoping that it either found a home or that someone took him or her.
I would have at the time, but 1) it looked cared for, so I think it was close to home and 2) I wasn't sure how to get it into my commuter bag and up mt washington w/o hurting it ... or me... all I could picture was a freaked out cat climbing on top of my head as I took pj mcardle across the liberty bridge.
