Knickers/Capris recommendations

Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for some good, but not terribly expensive cycling knickers or capris to use for commuting.

one option is to shorten an old pair of trousers. avoid cotton because it wears faster than blends, which wears faster than wool or a full synthetic. i've worn the ass out of a few, so...

another option is to buy a pair of knickers new. more expensive, but the durability of the material is *usually* much better than regular pants.

I got some Nashbar "C-pants" that I like a lot, the fabric is a nice brushed cordura nylon, the weight of the fabric is just right, and since they are nylon they can get wet without getting uncomfortable. They are cut small, I had to get the XXL, I normally just get L in things (38 waist). They have no stretch, a little would be nice, but it's not a killer. And right now they are dirt cheap.

I really hope more makers start jumping into knickers, I like them a lot.

Doesn't Endura make a decent pair of knickers? It's too bad Hypnotic Designs is not still around--those were pretty sweet.

The MUSA Knickers (sold by Rivendell) are pretty nice, too. I used them a lot in the summer (they are very light), and they take a fair amount abuse off-road, too. And they're made in the USA.
