Over time I think the numbers can wear where they are used the most but I don't think it will be an issue. Just don't forget to shuffle the combo when you walk away.
Kryptonite KryptoLok Combo U-Lock
I am looking to get a U-Lock for my bike and I like the idea of not having to carry keys with me so I am looking at this lock. http://www.rei.com/product/833106/kryptonite-kryptolok-combo-u-lock
But before I pull the trigger, I wanted to see if a combo lock less secure than a keyed lock?
As I said before I like the idea of not needing to carry a key with me, but not if it sacrifices security.
Kryptonite has a security level rating system for their products, look at the packaging or website and compare the product you are thinking of with their other products.

It's on the lower level relative to their other U-locks (rated for "low to moderate crime areas"). On the other hand, it's still going to be a lot more secure than any cable lock.
I had a combo cable once.
It can get difficult, if you lock up when it's light and then have to unlock in the dark.
I think an important thing others haven't mentioned is that you have to change the combination from the default.
Pretty much all of the old cable combos came defaulted to 0005. Not sure about U-locks, but it's worth it to take 5 minutes to change it to something you won't forget.
Hey thanks, I didn't know that everybody knows my combination. I'll see if I can find its directions now...
Thanks everyone the info will help.
