Lance Armstrong moving to Florida?

OK, I just made this up, but consider: Florida has very liberal laws regarding bankruptcy and your house. Basically, your home is protected against creditors, regardless of how much money you put into it. It's the reason OJ Simpson moved there -- he would take out a loan against his house and then use any cash to pay off that loan, completely protecting it against the parents of that waiter he killed. And it's not a bad place to bike, maybe too flat, but you can go year round. So I'm anticipating a Lance Armstrong move in that direction, as the lawsuits pile up and his fortune comes increasingly under threat.

I'm going to ride there next month. They appear to have a lot of bike paths throughout the state. From what I've seen from the drivers there, best to stay on the paths. My Mom lives there, it's a very strange state with odd property laws (non-house). When my Dad passed, people would show up with "quit claim" deeds for his property. "Oh, he sold it to me a few days before he died." The quit claim deeds didn't seem to need notarized. Lots of craziness - we pretty much had to nail stuff down. We never did recover his truck...

TX and Fl have the same homested exemptions for bankruptcy. In TX you can keep your home and up to 100 acers of land.

I grew up in FL. However, PA has some pretty weird laws: buying alcohol is a PITA here. And for some reason, I still smell cigarette smoking at eating establishments here.

As for FL being flat, it certainly is. I was very surprised to see that Pittsburgh was hilly (mountainous) when I first visited. Although I love the mountains, biking on flat, well maintained roads is something I miss. I bike year round here too. One advantage of Pittsburgh is that I can bike and never need a car. That is untrue for most of FL because it is so spread out.
