Yesterday a young woman talking on her cell phone blew through a stop sign on Ellsworth. I caught up to her at the next light and told her she should get off her phone and pay attention. She said "you were in the middle of the road! You could die!" I just said "Well if I die it'll be because someone like you hit and killed me!"

Seems like yesterday (Wednesday) was road rage day. Maybe it was because there was alot of people going back to work after having a few days off but all I know is I got harassed and passed uncomfortably close by 3 cars on my way to work in the morning. The best was a woman that just had to pass me on sycamore st while the road was wet and going by men working in the street. On top of it she felt the need to flip me off and yell at me as she sped by. I continued going the same speed and pulled up next to her 4 seconds after she passed me at the stop sign at the bottom of sycamore. When I told her the pass she made over 2 solid yellow lines was illegal she started screaming at me at the top of her lungs telling me im making her later for her appointment and the old classic "I drive on this road everyday". Then called me every name in the book and gave me the fingers as she sped off for her appointment. I can only assume she was late for her straight jacket fitting.

Willie. Now that you mention it, yesterday was one of the most hectic commutes I have had in a long while.

Scott, I love the people that tell me it's too dangerous to ride a bike when they are the ones causing the danger.

..or look at your watch and say "Hey, it's been fun talking to you but I don't want to hold you up or anything. You don't want to be late!"

I absolutely do not want to discourage drivers from crossing the center line to give cyclists as much room as possible!

As long as they can pass safely, it's far, far better for them to do that than to try to squeeze by me in one lane.

And if the written law doesn't permit it, the actual (practiced) law does, and the written law should be changed.

Not that what that lady did was sane, or safe, just that the reasons for being irked must be because what she did was dangerous, not just yellow line dogma.

Lyle, yea it wasent just the passing that bothered me it was the riding my ass the whole way down the hill while I was going the speed limit thru a work area with flag men at either end and various cones and signs telling the traffic to go slow. Then passing me closely while flipping me off and yelling just to get to a stop sign that I was arriving at in about 4 seconds myself. Matter a fact after she took the left onto arlington ave we both sat at the red light at the bottom of the hill for a min arguing, no actually it was her screaming insanely and me standing there with my mouth hanging open.
