Gah I wish we could fit the ute down the stairs to our basement.

I wish i had the cash to buy the ute (and a place to put it...)

I do so love the Ute, but I would also need to find someplace to keep it. As well as everything else I own. And a new place to live. 'Cause at this point Mrs. edmonds59 would throw me the f out.

It's not easy, but is do-able. I have the typical side door to tiny landing, 90-degree turn, then narrow steps.

2012-10-08 11:46:36

Attn Colin. I want. We have the same setup in our house.

Great, now you're going to kick everyones ass on a cargo bike too. Cargo the Commonwealth.

Not really. I am not fast I just keep going and going...

The ute would be for "crush the chores" and would give me the ability to bring home big bags of pet food.

i absolutely love having a ute.

i also recommend adding a huge front basket.

if we get a cargo bike its going to have to have a little shed built for it in the alley. i can barely get my downhill bike into our basement. its not the landing and narrow steps, its the 180º turn at the bottom and the low ceiling after the landing. walk the bike down on both wheels and it doesnt go around the bend at the bottom, walk it on the rear wheel and you have about an inch where you arent either scraping the saddle on the steps or smashing the wheel into the low ceiling. YAY old houses!

I've talked myself out of it numerous times. Someone please buy this before I make a regrettable decision. Really want a touring bike :( if bike is still available closer to moving deadline I might have to pull the trigger!! You moving the 13th or the 20th?

The 13th.

2012-10-08 15:51:08

Yeah, I have the same issue in my old M-side house. I've seriously considered a cargo bike about twice a year for the last five years, but there's just not a place where I can store it. I can barely get a commuter with a porteur rack down the steps without getting stuck.

my building's door opens directly into the staircase up to my floor. it's got a real stiff closer on it, too, so it can be hard getting in and out--damn thing closed on my wheel this morning.

i could probably store a bike in the hallway outside my apartment--someone upstairs seems to--but I'm paranoid about it staying put, even with only four apartments in the building. I've only got a one-room studio, so there's not much room to put a bike when i'm not riding it...

and I'm still considering selling my car & getting a ute, or at least something with a rack & panniers...

sew - I am actually at s(+z)-1 wherein z is a hidden number of bikes or partial bikes that I shuffle into and out of the shed so Mrs. edmonds59 is never quite sure what's going on. Shh.

A copper colored Ute would never pass as z.

epanastrophe
2012-10-08 23:17:52

Your welcome to try one or all of them on.

2012-10-08 23:25:37

"I have spraypaint."

You have to use the paint designed for automobile rims, from my experience. I see a fleet of gun-metal in edmond's future. ;)

2012-10-09 22:13:21

The paint is too pretty to do that.

Seriously, though, if you are interested in any of the above items, let me know.

2012-10-09 22:31:36

^^^ +1

Regardless, I'm certain the Ute would stick out regardless of color!

I must of been kidding myself, I can't come up with the moneys, tried though, just the wrong time. Perhaps if I would of gave up drinking last month :(
