New signs on liberty

I saw them for the first time while heading inbound on liberty between the Bloomfield bridge and 40th street. It officially says that the right lane approaching the light at 40th is right turn only except bikes and busses. Hoping more signs to improve cycling are on their way.

whoohoo! right-hooked ftw. :|

Ah didn't think of it that way. I just figured cyclist would take entire right lane with no room for car to pass on right to turn right, as there would be traffic going straight in the left lane.

Awesome. We've been waiting on the remaining signage for a long time. Every bike rider I see takes that right turn lane and merges into the bike lane.

I didn't notice if the overhead signage changed going outbound in the right hand straight lane at liberty and the Bloomfield bridge. The road shows it is bikes (and I guess busses only),but cars use that lane still probably cause the overhead signs hadn't changed last I saw.

I don't, I merge into the straight lane. It should be something like "B" in this picture:

Good to hear. At least we are being recognized as being people and not road kill.

Did they make any changes on the outbound side? People try to sneak into that phantom 3rd lane (by driving through the bike lane) that appears after the ramp to the bridge, which is pretty useless since it merges back into one lane after less than a block. I'm not sure why it isn't just a bike lane all the way to the intersection of Ella St, where that second lane of travel turns into parking anyways.

There's not enough room for a bike lane and two car travel lanes.

I realize good, long-lasting road paint is expensive, but this city needs to do a lot more to mark restricted and turning lanes on the pavement, like the huge "BUS ONLY" and related markings in Manhattan and other places.

ETA: ... not to mention "DON'T BLOCK THE BOX" ....

I live a block from here and am happy to see

this. Now if somebody will just burn down

curan motors so they cant illegally park cars

and force you into a sketchy lane/door zone.

I meant to respond to this after I rode through there the other night, since SV is out of date. There's space to do what I suggested but you'd have to eliminate a few parking spots on the westbound side. The corresponding parking is already gone in front of the gas station on the eastbound side (in the form of unused space to the right of the bike lane).

Overall you'd have plenty of room for 2 bike lanes + 3 car lanes (total) in that space.
