new (to me?) sharrows

So, I probably haven't ridden on Ellsworth for a while, and last night I was pleasantly surprised to see some sharrows there (west of negley or maybe aiken).

Then last night I saw some sharrows on centre east of melwood, which surprised the crap out of me. I almost never ride on that block, I'm usually on baum if I'm going that way.

So, at first I thought I missed something but searching the internets turned up nothing about either of these. How long have they been there? Have we crossed a threshold where new sharrows are no longer newsworthy? That would be some kind of milestone... I do seem to see sharrows in all kinds of random places recently.

Thanks - I had it in the back of my mind that I had heard about this but like I said I couldn't find it... pretty cool.

yeah, to be honest, the centre/neville sharrows are part of a larger project where legit bike lanes are supposed to be installed along with it. the city put the sharrows in in november, then didn't finish the project. so it's about half done and we had a hard time spinning some good news out of a half done project. that's why you see a sharrow going into the back of a parked car on millvale - they are supposed to remove the parking there but, lo it's half done.

erok - half done means completion is only half way away instead of starting at zero. I've got faith BPGH won't let it hang out there too long ;)

is the tire half pumped up or half deflated?

I notice that in the morning when I ride by west penn hospital on millvale, there are almost always vans and trucks parked in the area where the sharrows instruct cyclists to ride between the hospital and parking garage.

well, that is technically a no parking or stopping zone.

Yeah, they have a loading dock area right there too. I think they don't use that so that when a semi-truck needs to pull in there, they don't have to move. I tend to see semi-trucks there very frequently as well... often sticking out in to the lane as well.

West Penn is under renovation, so expect it to get a lot worse with the trucks and equipment. The renovation plan is extensive.
