November Moonlight Ride

**New ending place!

The Original Hot Dog Shop

3901 Forbes Ave**

A swift autumn ride around the city at night. This ride is definitely no-drops, but has a little bit faster pace than some of the more family friendly rides.

This happens on a Monday because there's minimal traffic that night of the week, and because I can't make any other night of the week :)

We'll meet at 11:45pm, and leave at 12:15 am from Friendship park.

Helmets encouraged

Lights are MANDATORY

Smiles required

Healthy appetite recommended

Stop at red lights/stop signs

If the group gets cut in half by a red light, we'll pull over and stop to wait for everyone else

Use turn signals

Stay in the correct lane (right most of the time, sometimes the center lane, sometimes left if there's a turn)

If it's safe to let cars pass, let them.

If it's not safe to let cars pass, don't let them.

If it's raining at 11, we'll cancel.

hey, this is Monday night! I'll post a route in the morning. It'll probably be similar to the first one from way back in August.

Wow, I actually get off work at midnight in East Liberty. I could probably kick it in and make the start. Sound like fun. Where does it end?

2012-10-31 02:40:23

the hot dog shop in oakland. I could re-work the route a little so that it heads toward Elib a bit before heaving back through bloomfield, it that helps.

So, must have missed the initial post, but where does the ride start?

2012-10-31 20:25:21

the parklet thingy on Friendship

2012-10-31 20:35:58

correct, the small park on Friendship Ave behind the hospital.

2012-10-31 20:54:18

This is tonight! hope to see yinz there!

I will probably be semi-late (not there by 11:45, anyway) as I will be coming straight from campus, where I will be finishing a take-home exam that is due at midnight — don't leave without me pleeeezzzz

2012-11-05 22:39:43

Ride safe, and eat safe (as an aside, the O is a hotspot for overnight shootings, which is why there's an after midnight upcharge to pay the cop who sits inside).

"hotspot for overnight shootings"? Give me a break.

When I worked there, it was safer at night. Maybe scarier looking, but safer. The guards actually do something.

Once in the daytime I was chased around by some little fool with a switchblade knife. At night, the guards would have taken care of that quickly.

As it was, I had to rely on my charm, good looks, and manly defensive skills.

Ah sorry I missed this. I was not able to be woken up from my nap until after 11:30pm, and I was too exhausted. Hope you had a great time and didn't get shot!

salty, go review the police records if you want. That corner is consistently involved in violence at least once a year for whatever reason. Can you think of any other establishment that pays a guard overnight (and do you think they'd pay for one there if it wasn't a real issue)?

smithfield news downtown usually has a guard or police officer outside at night. At least when I go there they do.

Hey I think my toes have finally thawed out. It was a nice ride with Erica “bonus” miles – thanks for leading ;-)

("Erica bonus miles" means that I missed a turn and didn't notice for about 2 miles)

the ride home from the o was kinda lame. I broke a spoke on the way through the south side.

nope, super fun, warm, no lost fingers or toes.

you may resume feeling horrible in 3..2..1..

2012-11-06 23:10:06

If we do a december ride, it'll be on the 3rd. How many of you would actually go? Would you make it a shorter ride? suggestions encouraged. It's okay to say no, too, since the amount of fun involved in getting my ass out into the cold is directly proportional to the number of people I'd be riding with.

if im not sick and half asleep with too much work to do still i'll go. and wake stef up in time even.

(insert random statement about the cold temperature here.)

(expecting reply involving lack of toughness in 3,2,1...)

2012-11-11 13:18:46

I'll give my odds at about 1 in 3.

i think im in, as long as its dry. i would not make it shorter though... just faster so we generate more warmth!

2012-11-12 18:41:59

I'm in as long as it's dry.

2012-11-12 21:47:44

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! did i miss this again last night?! the weather has been so nice, i really wish id have remembered :(

melange396
2012-12-04 21:59:15

afaik there was not a ride last night, but it would have been super awesome, warm temps, bright moon. all that good stuff for anevening ride in dec.

2012-12-04 22:42:24

There wasn't. I normally plan these a few weeks in advance, and by the time the weather was nice, it was too late. Also, I slept for 13 hours yesterday, so that's another reason it didn't happen
