Forgive the thread necromancy, but Fallbrook has announced a new version of the NuVinci: the NuVinci360.
Claims to fame are lighter, 50% less twister shift required, and a slightly increased range of 360% (hence the name).
I can't justify the $400+ for the hub, but I'd love to try one out someday.
i think this puts it in the range of shifting with any friction shifter... which is a pretty awesome thing...

$400 seems pretty reasonable for an IGH. I mean, Rohloffs are, what, $1000?
Yeah, the Rohloffs are a wee bit spendy.
I agree, the price is reasonable, assuming the efficiency losses aren't, like, 20% or something.
[edited to add:] We may need new nomenclature, as IGH isn't entirely accurate. "Fluid-filled Off-kilter Balls Hub", or FOBH, has a nice ring to it...
Yea, Rohloffs go for $1100-1200 retail. I got mine on fleabay for quite a bit less than that. The guy who built my wheel said "it was the heaviest wheel I've ever seen!" and he wasn't kidding. I shutter to think that these NuVinci things weigh double what the Rohloff does, yikes. The range on a Rohloff is also something around 530%. I have to admit though, the internals of the NuVinci are way, way, way cooler. If they could cut the weight in half, I'd probably buy one.

Heh...completely by accident, I came across this guy selling a 26" NuVinci wheel, shifter, and freehub, one mile of use, for $350.
No relation to seller, I know nothing about the wheel, yaddayaddayadda...
The new Alfie 11 speed might be a Nuvinci killer.
Lighter, more range 409%, the internals have been beefed up and better sealed. Also, only ~$420.
