Oh Jesus. This takes me back about 8-10 years when I went to the Rex to see this and I couldn't believe how much people were into it. It was my first time seeing it so I had to do something involving a banana, my mouth, and a condom.

Although, I have to admit, I always felt like I was "supposed to" like rocky horror more than I actually liked it. Which possibly makes me lame, a poseur, or both - but it was still a good time regardless.

I went to the old Beehive showings back in the 90s in high school. Even saw the sort of sequel there at an all night triple showing. Shock Treatment. Absolutely terrible.

I've been to it two or three times at The Oaks, last time being a couple of years ago.

Oh good... I am glad that people widely accept this as being a bad movie. It really is a horrible movie. I rembember being in high school and going to shows at laga. I think it ws the beehive by 1998 and I remember thinking people were werid freaks when I walked past people dressed up for RHPS. I wouldn't mind seeing it again, as it was kind of amusing with all of the people yelling things

Saw it July 1979 in Buffalo; a friend's gf was excited about jumping around on a stage wearing just a bra & panties so talked a bunch of us into attending. I thought it was a great way to have fun at an otherwise stupid movie.

I remember in highschool sneaking out to see it at Forward, before the new management nixed it & they redecorated. Dressed up all my male friends in my dresses, got jealous that they had better legs and looked better in my clothes.

Let me assure you that the couple of honor will break down in a storm on the way to the shower and will have to seak aid in a nearby castle.

Aside from the distance (close to 25 miles), my biggest problem with a ride to/from Oakmont is not knowing how. Is it possible and reasonably safe to access Oakmont via bicycle, even in daylight? I won't ride at night any road I do not feel comfortable riding in daylight.

I guess I'm getting back to a primary purpose of the message board: Can you get from A to B by bike? Is it safe? How do you do it? How would you do it at night differently from daytime?

Once we get past those questions, then we can tackle whether to do so in street clothes, bridesmaid dress, French maid, thong, whatever. (Hmm, might be a bit cold for a thong.)

Stu, it's definitely safe to get to Oakmont by bike... at least from my house on the bluff above Verona

If you can get past cabbage hill, ride Freeport to Hulton Bridge. If you like ARB outbound (which is better than inbound), take that the whole way. If you'd rather, you can cruise through east end - ELB -> Hamilton -> Braddock -> Frankstown -> Verona Rd.

Personally, I'd be ok with any of those in a group, possible exception depending on weather for the Hamilton -> Frankstown bit (miserable weather I'd feel better). Maybe Freeport would be better, given the superior sight lines and multi-lane room.

Freeport Road between Blawnox and Hulton Bridge has no shoulder on either side, BUT it is two lanes and plenty roomy, and at that time of day, traffic should be light, BUT cars do FLY through there.

I recall, Stu, you're in McCandless, I think. I've never cycled it, but 910 to Harmar, getting on Freeport Road in Harmar is very close to Hulton Bridge.

I've cycled to Oakmo0nt in the daytime, but only once. I'd do it at night only with a large, well-lit group. (after all, the drivers might be "well-lit," too).

My preference would be to take an East End route - either the one Ejwme suggested or else out Lincoln Ave to Verona.

None of the routes would be tremendously condusive to peace of mind, of course, but then, neither would riding along with me in my Frankenfurter outfit.

Stu, I would suggest arranging some kind of sleepover. You are welcome to stay at my place.

910 is pretty sucky for riding. Cars move quickly, and unless the county has been busy, the surface is poor, at best.

There are other options, however, such as bombing down Guys Run from the ridge.

I would agree with Mick about ARB at night. That would not be ideal. You could cut through Lincoln-Lemington via Highland Drive, which can deposit you on the upper parts of Lincoln Avenue (past much of the worst parts of the neighborhood). You could either continue on Lincoln or take Verona Road.

I have only taken ARB during the day and there is always shit along the side of the road that makes it for an unpleasant ride. There ARE "share the road" signs. I imagine that with proper lighting it would be nearly impossible to miss a cyclist. It seems like the type of road that a rear blinky would light up because of all of the surrounding trees, but i would probably go across the river to get to Oakmont and back in the dark

All those reasons why people are nervous about getting to Oakmont? Reverse, and solo, are the reasons I have that momentary pause every time I get on my bike and it's not a sunny weekend morning. I hate that pause for what it means and how it feels.

Would be lovely if they had some kind of trail, like near the river, going from down town out to Oakmont, with entrances in Highland Park, Larrytown, Verona, PH... If only such a trail existed...

A trail dedicated to cyclist? That's crazy talk....
