Parking chairs and on-street bike parking on corners

The inspiration for this idea was a couple parking chairs set out on Wightman Street this morning. It didn't seem to make sense at first glance -- no one saves parking in the summer because no one has to shovel out their spot to park there. On second glance, the chairs were placed on a corner where the curb was painted yellow for no parking. So someone in the neighborhood apparently tired of people parking on corners, limiting visibility. A great solution to this problem would be to make those parking chairs useful -- how about a parking chair-shaped bike rack for corners along the lines of the video below? It'd make a nice statement that everyone should respect, showing that bikes have as much cultural history in Pittsburgh as parking chairs do.

That is part of the reason for the bike corral placement in Shadyside.
