Parking meters are gone, no bike parking anymore.

The city removed almost all the meters in Bloomfield, Shadyside, Lawrenceville, the Strip... basically all the bike friendly neighborhoods where you can get your shopping done.

Now there's a massive shortage of bike parking and maybe having to use less secure cable locks on odd shaped objects in the streetscape. It sucks!

Also the city no doubt spent money on clipping the meters. They could have saved some money and just left them in place and had enough bike parking for everyone.

I kinda want to organize putting in a bunch of bike racks in these areas, ahd prevent wasteful meter cutting but don't know how to start.

they've been awfully slow in getting these in, but i'm guessing the weather and snow coverage slowed this down a ton

I am very excited (and a little worried) about just how many people will be out riding when the weather gets warmer. I think we are experiencing the growing pains of the growth of cycling in Pittsburgh. If we make it easy for people to choose a bicycle then they will. if we make it difficult or dangerous to choos a bicycle then they wont.

come summer there will be a drastic shortage of lockable hardpoints with all the meter removals.

most places that have had the inverted U's installed have about half the lockpoints per block than the old meters provided.

311 is about to get a boatload of calls & reports this spring.

I was about to post that link here. Toronto has those all over the place. In the end I would rather have the inverted u-racks but not at the expense of places to park.
