And there is a long route option! All of the arguing was for nothing.

I work for ShowClix, and all issues will eventually go to me, so if you have an issue with the checkout process or selecting a jersey/etc, let me know! I'm really pumped to be working with BikePGH on this!

@stef - or you could say bike-pgh listened to feedback from its members about the event, which I believe is at least partially the truth. Although, admittedly things did get a bit out of hand (myself included).

@joeframbach, I guess this qualifies as an issue: the registration site refuses to let me add the Pedal PGH shorts to my order in any women's size (When I click "Get Tickets" from the event page, a bar appears at the top to say "Unable to reserve 1 Cycling Shorts"). The problem doesn't occur with men's sizes. Weird.

Thanks for reporting this. I just let our guy know about it too.

The problem with the shorts should be fixed now.

Thanks,

Mike

Bug report - if you try to sign up for Bike Pgh membership at the same time, you get hit with a $9 shipping charge. It appears that the site treats this as an order of apparel. I couldn't figure out a way around this.

That report came in yesterday, I'm working on it.

When I registered for PedalPGH a message came up regarding picking up my number for the ride early at REI. I failed to print that info and I can't find it anyplace else. Can somebody tell me when I can go to REI before Aug 5 and pick up my number for the ride. Thanks!

You can pick up your number early for Pedal PGH at REI in the South Side on Saturday July 28th or August 4th between 11am and 2pm.

Only two weeks left till PedalPGH. We have nearly 750 registrants so far and are trying to at least double that.

Thanks to everyone who already registered or who is signed up to volunteer! We still need about 20-30 more volunteers for PedalPGH and about 5-10 more for the BikeFest Party.

I registered last week, but don't recall having picked a route length. Did I miss something, or is it just free-form pick-it-when-you-get-there? (or is my memory just shot?)

You can choose your own route at Pedal PGH or a "free-form-pick-it-when-you-get-there sort of thing."

See you at the ride.

unfortunately this is the same weekend as the downhill racing coaching camp at snowshoe. downhill beats road every time for me.

I heard on the news that the ride will be dedicated to the cyclist who died in Maryland.

Just read about the Tuesday 7/31 evening bike/car accident in Point Breeze. In one week, the local bicycle headlines have been (1) James Price, (2) Mark Schneider, and (3) this 7/31 event.

So the strategic (re)positioning of PedalPgh is to move the event beyond supporting the core bike community, go beyond preaching to the BikePgh choir, moving beyond the 1% and the 7% who already get it, and try to entice the 80% into giving bicycling a try; to get their bikes out of the basement, feel the wind in their face, and start identifying themselves as bicyclists. (And I think that's a very worthy strategy)

I'd like to suggest that we recognize that the news of the last week is completely inimicable to the goal/strategy of PedalPgh 2012 in terms of moving the 80% onto a bike on the street.

And I'd like to suggest there might be an opportunity to redirect or address it, if there's a political / safety response to the events of the week - but if the week rolls through on inertia and status quo, the big BikePgh initiative of the year may be overcome by the headlines of these three events.

Just my .02

Respectfully, V.

So so so SO stoked.

edmonds59, I enjoyed that, thank you, and I really enjoyed your term "Kent State moment" that's spot on. (for those of us of a certain age) cheers, V.

Crap, I'm not quite going to make it to REI by 2 to pick up my ride number. Unless I can catch the people passing them out before they leave, anybody have an idea how long should I expect the lines to be to pick that up if I get there at 6 tomorrow?

2012-08-04 17:32:54

i got there a little after 11am and waited in line for maybe like 15-20 mins? there was one guy with an iphone that was scanning in your registration code, but the others were manually typing your name and searching in his phone for it. i only got a number, and it wasn't specific to my name. i don't know if there was something else i was supposed to pick up other than a cue sheet and a free copy of bicycle times. i heard that there are no tshirts this year. i was number 815 or something, so it seems like a lot of people have already picked up their things. the number was just given out in the order in which participants showed up.

also, i don't know if anyone in charge read this in the tag o rama thread, but i came across the birmingham bridge from fifth avenue, and there is broken glass on the bike lane and in the road between the beginning of the bridge and the ramp where cyclists yield to vehicles. i appreciate all of the signage already and the marking of the road hazards.

I also missed the pickup today so I'll be in line at 6am to get my packet.

I picked up a pink cue sheet but didn't realize that one's only for the 27 mile City Tour; is there a cue sheet for the 63 mile ride? And are they published online? I could print one out myself if they were, but all I see is the Google map and a MapMyRide link.

I was at the pick-up around 12:30 waited for 20 min and seen someone get number 950, and I got 1405. So I don't know how they were working numbers.

2012-08-04 21:04:00

@mrm Mike told that last year they were going close at 3:00pm but he was there 6:00pm until after the last person in line had been serviced. He told this year it's going to be a little worse. So at 3 pm there were people in line and volunteers continued to provide numbers.

2012-08-05 01:28:38

What was the final number of participants?
