Pedal Pittsburgh - anyone riding together?

Anyone from the board riding with others from the board in Pedal Pittsburgh?

I joined "team OTB/EEB" which meets at OTB sometime before 8am. I'm not sure I know anyone else that is going, or if they're on the board, but I'd be happy to ride with you if you wanted to meet there around 7:30 or so. I signed up for the 60 mile option, but I sort of plan on skipping Summerset (I've seen planned burbs before), if nobody I'm riding with is dying to bike down and up that hill.

I'm riding with nochasingiguanas as part of our MS 150 training! I'm kind of psyched for the last part up Mt. Washington!! (I think I'm growing slightly masochistic when it comes to hills)

I'm pretty new to cycling, so I'm going to be doing the 15 mile route. Really wish I were fit enough to do a longer ride.

There are around 57 people riding with OTB/EEB's team. I'm sure nobody will mind if you jump in with the group. Looks like everyone will be leaving OTB btw 8-8:30. A bunch of us are doing the 60 mile option. Scott Smith from East End is doing the 35 or 25, and I'm guessing there will be people doing the all the rides from 15 to 60.

I hope Judgement Day or rain does not ruin the ride Sunday.

I wanted to join a group to ride the 50 or 60 mile but I was afraid I would be to slow and hold the group up so I'm going solo and I hope to join a group next year

There is basically zero expectation in any of these types of events that a group or team will stay together, so don't let that deter you.

Dan, I'll probably ride down and up that hill just because its one of 3 places I ended up pushing last year. It does look brutal though and I've never ridden it (well, at least not for 15 years, Bill liked to punish me and I don't remember all the crazy places we went... I think we maybe used to ride a trail where summerset is now)

I will probably just ride by myself. Can't keep a steady pace on a longer ride. I also think I am still rather slow on uphills and I kinda took a spill tonight, so I think I may have some knee soreness at the time of the ride. I don't want to slow people down. But if I run into people i know I am not opposed to riding a bit with him or her. Usually leave as early as we are supposedly allows to leave... Meaning after I get my packet.

you're not allowed to skip summerset!

I'm going to get a very early start (~7) because I bungled my schedule & need to be done & downtown by 1p (and I'm not the fastest).

I'll be there bright and early, I still plan on doing the 60.... or 50. I'm a slow rider so I'm starting at 7 am. I'm excited this is going to be fu-un

marvelousm3

I will be there! Doing the 35 unless someone talks me into the 50. I'm intentionally slow though, and haven't ridden any distance in awhile...

Ugh... my plan was to take it easy at my friend's birthday party. I do not believe I succeeded. Have fun!

Props to CDCP for getting people to bike in the rain and realize they're not going to vaporize.

Passed a bunch of faces I've never seen before on the road.

I caught & passed everyone that wasn't faster than me. Anything wearing a helmet was a target. It was like pac man out there till I cracked my frame.

You didn't catch me- probably cause of the broken frame :-(. Or else you probably would have eventually. There was one guy that kept passing me cause he was floating up hills with the greatest of ease, but then he kept stopping cause he was waiting for a friend, but other than that ,I was not passed until I just slowed way down on Josephine. even then, just 3 dudes passed me. Some years I like to use rides like this to train for the ms150, and my goal is to not let another female pass me. I think I lucked out. Didn't see too many females.. I am not as fast as I used to be.

Lots of dudes kept passing me when I was waiting at red lights, without even slowing down. Apparently a carbon fiber Cervélo lends you some special immunity to the law and the forces of a multi-ton chunk of metal T-boning you.

Too bad they huffed and puffed up every hill and I passed them pretty shortly afterwards with my steel frame, fenders, panniers, and U-lock.

Yeah I noticed a lot of people in general just rolling lights and stop signs without looking or looking as they proceeded though the middle of the intersection. At least slow and look first.

I ride both a high-end road bike and a heavy urban bike with a rack for commuting. It's funny because some roadies look down on me on when I'm on my grocery-getting bike and some commuters look down on me when I rock the dorky spandex. lol

I was going up One Wild Place, just tooling along, la la la, and some guy passing me asked if I was okay. I was like, yeah, just a little tired from a ride I did Friday. We got up to the park and he asked: "did you ride to work on Friday?" Me: "yeah" Him: "where do you work?" Me: "Morgantown."

A few times small groups of friends riding together would stop in the middle of a trail or curb cut to discuss directions, without leaving room for others to pass, and oblivious to people asking them to clear out of the way. That was annoying.

pseudacris

@sarah_q you ride from the city to Morgantown?! Thats awesome how long and far is that. Do you ride your urban or road bike for that.

marvelousm3
2011-05-23 14:59:12

Only once! It was 90 miles with 6,000'+ of climbing. I'm a teacher and no student would want to come near me after that ride. It was a special occasion for "ride to work day". :) But I think I am going to make this an annual ride.

I took the light bike. Even then I was sucking some serious wind on the hills.
