Pittsburgh Bicycle Scavenger Hunt

Let's do a bicycle scavenger hunt! I have a list of 20 or so items. Per typical scavenger hunt rules, you would go do these things and take a picture or video for evidence. The only twist is that your team must travel entirely by bike!

I'd like to do this before the weather gets too bad, but maybe host another in the spring if there is interest. Maybe this Saturday 11/17? I know that is pretty soon.

Tentative Rules:

1. Obey all laws, traffic or otherwise!

2. Teams of 1-5 people

3. Must take a picture or video to prove you did the task

4. Everyone must ride a bicycle

5. Everyone in the team must be present for each item (no splitting up!)

Prizes:

1. Most tasks completed (or first to finish)

2. Most points

3. Most ridiculous photos

(maybe a 6 pack for the team?)... to be determined. Or if people are interested, we could have a small entry fee to put in a pool for prizes.

The day of the event, I would post the tasks at say 7am and everyone would have until sunset to finish. I would probably also participate for fun, but not be eligible for prizes.

Anyone interested? Suggestions? Alternate date?

Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternate date? This Saturday? Or should we hold off till more people hear about it and are wanting to participate? Maybe 12/1 instead?

2012-11-15 22:24:39

We know the forecast for this Sat is good. I'd say take advantage of it. We'll get better participation in 50's and sunshine than 30's and rain and this time of year it'll be a crapshoot if you wait.

2012-11-16 00:46:30

Yeah. The weather looks good. I'll make the call tomorrow for whether it is on for this Saturday. I just hope we have more than two participants haha.

2012-11-16 01:46:07

Alright, I'll post the items tomorrow morning when I get up. I'm going to a birthday party this evening, so I might not be up super early.

2012-11-16 23:40:26

Ok, very unlikely I'll wake up by dawn to post the tasks so here they are:

Rules:

1. Obey all laws, traffic or otherwise!

2. Teams of 1-5 people

3. Take a picture or video for each task for proof. Post it to this thread. You may do so for each task, or at the very end with a link to all your photos (preferable)

4. Everyone on the team must ride a bicycle

5. Everyone in the team must be present for each item (no splitting up!)

6. Have lots of fun!

I wasn't able to participate Saturday, but I'm surprised to see that apparently no one else was either. This is a great idea and I'd still like to do it sometime. I hope the lack of participation on this attempt doesn't squash the idea entirely. Brybot, thanks for putting it together and please try it again.

No one participated?

It was such a great weekend, weather wise, I thought there would be a crowd of people out snapping photos.

I thought about it, but too many of objects were east end centric, and for me that would have meant a mega ride to get all the tags. I just wasn't up for it this weekend.

I'll try it again, but next time with a little bit more warning and advertisement. Might have to wait till spring to get decent participation. I don't mind riding in the snow, but I know a lot of people who do. @Swalfort, I am newish (little over a year) to Pittsburgh and live in the East End area, so thats all I know. If you have suggestions for the next one, I'd be glad to hear them.

@Brybot - no the clues/targets were generally good, just not convenient for me, unless I bussed the bike into town at the start and finish. Dinosaurs, hipsters and frat boys are all great target items, but are hard to come across in suburbia!

I would of loved this ride, just wasnt able to make it on short notice. I really tried. refine it add some things and make it a bike fest event. (with a few tryouts before hand.)

looking at your list all I could think of was "I could of so rocked this list!!!" whatever you do dont quit. just keep on trying.

I think this could be a blast. I would probably not want to get frisked by a cop or fraternize with a shirtless frat guy, though. High potential for me to get my a** kicked or worse.

I definitely want to do this--I just couldn't swing it this past Saturday. Please schedule another one, Brybot!

2012-11-20 01:31:41

Alrighty. I'll do a new one. How many of you would be up for one during winter? Or should we wait for spring? We might be able to squeeze one in early Dec. before the holidays.

2012-11-20 06:14:42

spring, please.

one word: snotrockets

Uh...I'm nto inot being frisked by the police. Could lead to the handcuff bonus. While bonuses are nice and all, I don't think I'd be into it.

I could deal with the rest of it. I'm sure it would puzzle the frat boys though.
