It makes me sad to think that I didn't touch a bike for years between the age of about sixteen and twenty-seven. If I could go back and redo the last ten or so years, I would have totally gone for a ride in Hong Kong, Australia, Japan, England, etc... just b/c I could have. :( Fortunately, I had some friends in the Navy who were hardcore cyclists (and did ride in those countries... they took their bikes along for the "cruise"); they rubbed off on me, eventually.

Pennsylvania, including a 5-day trip to Harrisburg via the PA S-Trail, 263 miles one way. Coastal Maryland - everywhere in Ocean City and then north to Delaware. Baltimore, MD, including past the Raven's stadium (my son said "Did you give it the finger?") Coastal Delaware - maybe 20 miles of the DE coast, Rehoboth, other tourist locations. Several 20-25 mile rides from Wilmington, DE into southeast PA (greater Philly) Coastal North Carolina, near Wilmington, NC Chicago - 4 Star ride, 37 miles, something like 6,000 riders.

Gee, I feel like I don't get out much, in comparison. I've only bicycled in NY and PA. And once in Tucson AZ. Over the years, though, I've measured the farthest out that I've traveled under my own power, or the "farthest-out" experience. In PA: * McCandless to Braddock to downtown * McCandless to Homestead * McCandless to Verona, then Verona to downtown * McCandless - Mars - Cranberry Twp - and return * McCandless - Robert Morris U in Moon, then to Hot Metal and back downtown * One fairly short but memorable ride in Philadelphia In NY: * West Falls to South Buffalo and back (30 miles, age 14) * West Falls to Glenwood and back (15 miles, age 8, 20" single speed) * West Falls to Geneseo (50 miles one way, four times, age 18) * Geneseo to East Avon to Geneseo (25 miles) * 26-mile charity ride on the unicycle (age 15) * Unicycled from 206th St to Greenwich Village in NYC (age 20) * Unicycled in tux and tails on my wedding day (Geneva NY) There may have been an occasional camping trip where I toodled around a parking lot or grassy field on the unicycle for two minutes as a demo, god-knows-where. Coney Island? Montreal? Ottawa? Virginia Beach?

I’ve biked in McKees Rocks multiple times. Back story: In college I worked for this old retired Navy Chief Petty Officer. He was one of those guys that would get mad at you if you didn’t want to drink shots with him at nine o’clock in the morning which he did just about every day. When talking about -seeing the world- he used to say “I’ve circled the globe seven times and I’ve been to McKees Rocks twice!” He was a salty old dude with a big heart, or he was an extreme SOB, depending on his level of inebriation.

I grew up in Gary, but the Miller Beach area along the lake and on the far eastern edge of the county. Lot's of nice country roads and neighborhoods from there and points southeast. Downtown, not so much. This thread makes me wish I had a bike with me when I was travelling a lot to other places.

Ah, as a visitor I only know the downtown area. I will have to explore that direction on my next trip.

NJ as a kid PA WV panhandle once McKees Rocks twice Longest rides: Carnegie to Weirton, Library to Little Washington, Boyce Park to Delmont, Library to Hickory, plus various trails.

@Stu: littering, chewing gum, walking around inside the house naked and bicycle riding on Sundays all get you caned or tossed in the slammer.

What about chewing gum inside your house while dancing naked under a sheet, after dropping the gum wrapper on the floor? Not being a wise guy, just trying to get a better understanding on this. ..........

It's a funny place, Singapore. Gum is not allowed but the locals are more than happy to take it off your hand if you have a means of importing it. It's one of the cleanest cities in the world... and yet, the only place in the world that I have been which required flushing the "toilet" with a ladle full of water (a bar on the outskirts). It's also the last place that I would have expected to go mountain-biking, or more appropriately jungle-biking. Most locals live in government owned housing, so it wouldn't surprise me if they aren't allowed to walk around naked (or maybe it's not the gov't doing the caning). Not sure about the Sunday biking thing, I think ALMKLM made that up.

Damn, I left out Jordan, particularly in and all around Amman. It's pretty awesome to bomb from the embassy area neighborhood, all the way downtown. It's steep and fast for several miles and once you're there, you can have lunch and ride around checking out assorted Roman ruins. And the people are kind, almost to a fault.
