Polar Bears for Projest Bundle up (bikers fro bundle up?)

I understand that January 1, 2010 seams like a long way off. And Jumping in the Monongahela river on the 1st from the wharf @ 9:30 does not have much to do with biking ( I guess you could ride to the Mon wharf and ride into the river but I would not recommend it). But, I wanted to throw out the idea for people to start thinking about. It is very simple, Show up, buy a t shirt, I try to hold the price to 10.00 with all the proceeds going to Project Bundle Up. This is a program to gather moneys to pay to put a new warm coat on a cold kid, children who through no fault of their own go without. Jump in the river, (hopefully there will be ice on the Mon this year). Go to Jacks and have a few shots then off to O'leary's for Breakfast then go home cold but with a warm feeling knowing that you helped a child stay warm. I have been doing this for years and welcome, come one come all. Now for the truth in advertising part- for 60 seconds of pain, yes it hurts, will give you a memory to last a life time and bragging rights for a year. On the scale of risk vs. reward relationship, not a bad deal.

Think about it and I will post again as the time nears.

Why not bring a junker from Free Ride or something so folks can ride in? Milwaukee did it:

If you want to build a bike to ride into the river I will help you build it better yet perhaps we could mentor someone . I guess we need to work out a way to get it out.I need some info on free ride. As my schedule permits I would like to become more involved. I think I can persuade some folks from the Guard to help as well. We did a pretty cool thing at the guard a few years ago we put out the word and within 154 hours we fixed up 117 bicycles and sent then to Ecuador on the tanker. It was a blast. Too many stories to share here but as a teaser I got a chance to meet a person who knew two of my heroes Nate Saint and Jim Elliot and where at Shell Merna when they died. He is no fool to give up what he can not keep to gain what he cannot loose, Jim Elliot 1956 Send me an e mail address and I will send you a power point of the bike thing.

Since the bike is going in the river, you could tie a rope tether to it to haul it back out each time. That way you could use the same bike over and over.

We could do this. I will warn you that your ability to think and work decreases dramatically after hitting the water. What I usually do is hold the robes an towels for the first timers so they can jump in when the horn goes off and help them get out. You need someone to help you get out. I can go in as a planed rescuer if needed but if not in that mind set when you hit the water it is every person for themselves. After every one is out then I will jump in. If you want to ride the bike in we should wait till the masses are done. But I am all about helping you.
