Post Party Midnight Mass

Who's up for some post-party Midnight Mass!?

I'm either going to be very late or miss the Bikefest Kickoff, unfortunately, but I love a good night ride.

A few of us are leaving from the party around 11:30 to head over to dippy.

I'm planning to stay up way past my bedtime for MM. It'll be fun.

I may leave a little early if I ride the tall bike to the party.

@Nick

A little earlier than 11:30, so you can meet us all around midnight?

Or a little earlier than midnight, so you can be fashionably late, as usual?

Glad to hear that bikefest week is starting off right with some quality late night shenanigans. If family obligations end early I might make it to the party, if not see you guys at Midnight.

A reminder to anyone who usually doesn't ride with us: This ride is endorsed by Flock of Cycles, which means helmets and lights are STRONGLY encouraged. We still stop at all red lights and obey all rules of the road as well as wait for anyone lagging behind or caught at a light. Don't be afraid to be the last one coming up a hill - we'll be at the top waiting for you :)

And Nick will ride back down and ride it a second time to pull you up.

There are hills?

Ok, I decided that I cashed in a few too many drink tickets for a group ride and took the 54C home from the party. Hope everyone is out having a fun (and safe) ride!

I was pretty shocked to see so many bikes without lights at the party tonight. Keychain LED's would be an awesome handout at the next fest.

Yeah, I saw the same thing at the first ghostbiking for ruhui lin. Weird.

how did those of you who continued to SS fare? man after seeing that wreck at penn & penn circle last night i just didn't want to tangle with the 2AM SS crowd as they drive home

South Side was a ghost town when I showed up with Rob and two others. We had a couple of drunk drivers honkin' their horns at us, but otherwise, it was just like any other night.

That was my first really truly hilly ride. Even though I could barely keep up, I'm quite proud I was able to maintain a decent clip. But I seem to only remember saying, in a grump state, "I'm going to punch Nick in the taint when this is over."

Weird.

quizbot - Last year the curtains were decorated with hundreds of planet bike red and white blinkies that they gave away at the end of the night.

@Mitch: Most of those hills were Dan's idea.

I was geared 49x15 last night and was regretting not changing my cog all night.

With that said, anyone who rode with us last night can now be considered, "badass" (or, "stupid").

Was fun

It was a blast till I found the bottom of the Earth in that hole on Beechwood Blvd. (ugh!) Double pinch flat. Thanks for offering to wait, but I didn't want to hold up the fun. I went home via Homestead and there was a dui bust at the end of the Grays bridge, then there was a hugh water break on glass run road to deal with. Then when I got to my neighborhood the electricity was out. Am I being punished for something?

Missed last year obviously, but the blinky giveaway is a great idea for a nighttime bike party.

I didn't make it, but I was kind of hoping to run into a few leftover bikers on my way to work this morning.

Especially when I got my 4th flat this week :-/

This is true. We had about 900 feet of climbing. 300 of that was me leading you guys up and around Greenfield, before we went down Greenfield Ave, then back up again (which was all Nick).

I hope everyone had fun. I have the distinct pleasure of biking up those hills everyday after work, and wanted to share my wonderful commute with everyone else.

If you want to train for next time, here was our route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/140865

Ignore the total change in elevation. The software doesn't know there are bridges and calculates the elevation change to the bottom of the hollows, rather than the bridge elevation.

'Twas a fun ride indeed, even if there were way too many cocky skinny young dudes on fixies. ;-)

And thank you, Dan, for not hitting some of the *really* evil hills that lurk in Greenfield. You could have been far more cruel than you were...

reddan

I found the most gradual climbs to the tops of the two hills I wanted to hit. Like you said, there were far, far worse ways to the top.

They were still mean hills!
