Road closing - to McKeesport

Just saw this, about the Tri-Boro bridge construction. "The bridge and roads will stay closed until late this year."

It's not the nicest bicycling route, but I've used it many times. There are other ways out in that direction but they're a little harder to find.

Argh. Unfortunate. Where's the money from the stimulus bill to finally get the GAP finished all the way into the city? - that's what I want to know...

Well other than taking a lane on 837 as a group, anyone else have route ideas to get from Point Park to Mckeesport at 5am on a Friday?

Hmmm....how's West Mifflin in the early AM? I'm wondering about Jail Trail-->Second Ave-->Glenwood Bridge-->Mifflin Rd-->Pittsburgh/McKeesport Blvd-->Mansfield Bridge-->5th Ave

that stinks, that's how I always get out. I'm sure the detours will involve either gross traffic or hills.

i wonder if the bike trail will be finished by CTC? all we're really waiting on is for them to open up access to the mon river bridge from the duquesne side.

There's a route along the hillside in Braddock ... I think I posted something about it once ... here:

" a different way through Braddock is is take Woodstock (parallel to and then crossing Braddock Ave) as it becomes Hawkins, then jog over to Bell/Center and follow through and go downhill on Linden into Turtle Creek. I think this is a Swan recomendation also. "

You've avoided hill climbing so far, but you're still on the wrong side of Turtle Creek, and a ridge (Wilmerding, N. Versaillles) stands between you and McKeesport

If you are trying to get to Mckeesport, I would do

the following:

Braddock - make a left UP the hill. Find Bell ave

which turns to center...

Take linden down to Airbrake Ave/Penn.

Turn UP greensburg pike, cross the tracks, make 1st

right onto unmarked st. (1st ave on maps??) Follow

that. Right when it gets steep, turn right. That will put you out on the otherside of the bridge that is closed.

Danny chew showed me this cut, and coming home from trafford and stuff, it makes taking wilmerding/wall a million times better than pitcarin

Thats the one!!! isnt it?

You go up that cliff, then hook the right. gradual uphill that hurts until you hit greensburg pike, then bomb down, this time making a left onto what i said above.

haha did it yesterday!

Right! I was poking around there a year ago, the second time I took the gps. I remember there's some sort of dirt road you can take midway in the hill? The tippytop is not at Greensburg Pike, but before, then turn left to get to Greensburg? Not sure now.

You can call it "gradual", heh, right.

But I think the route you describe (turn right off of 1st, !avoid! !hill!) could be a good way to go now to get to McKeesport

Yeah you can cut through a park to avoid the climb, it is at a fork going down.. right o.
