Route to Frick Park

I searched the forums and didn't see anything on this, so I apologize if this a repeat thread. I'm wondering what the best route is to Frick Park from North Oakland. I went once before and took Morewood to Forbes all the way to the Park, but that was a little too heavily trafficked for my tastes.

"best" is such a subjective term. You could try Morewood, Ellsworth, Shady, Wilkins, Dallas, Edgerton, etc. Or Shady, 5th, Beechwood-Reynolds.

See how those work for you.

Schenley Dr. -> Aylesboro -> Dallas -> Beechwood is pretty comfy.

Which part of Frick Park? Bowling Greens? Blue Slide park (top o' the park)?

Lyle's route would be my preferred route. If you don't like riding on Fifth or Shady, you can ride the sidewalk on Fifth just past the Center for the Arts, then take the path over Mellon Park to Beechwood at Reynolds.

If you can get to Beechwood safely I would say follow it, otherwise my route is always Schenley Dr -> Darlington all the way to Frick.

I took Morewood > Fifth > Wilkins > Beechwood, which worked out pretty well. Thanks for the tips.

Huh, I'm surprised you dislike Forbes but don't mind Fifth. That just goes to show how hard it is to choose recommended bike routes for maps and such.

Instead of Morewood to Fifth, try turning left on Bayard or Ellsworth, and then right on Amberson. There's a light at Amberson and Fifth and you are much closer to Wilkins when you get to Fifth.

Are you riding to Frick Park to ride off- road in the park? If so, you could ride through Schenley Park to bypass some of the traffic. Pick up the trail behind the visitors center, emerge at Bartlett Street, and either up to Beacon, or up to Darlington and follow those along to the park.
