Rt 28 work near 31st Street Bridge vs. river trail

Did anyone see the story in the Trib about the major road work on Route 28 near the 31st Street Bridge?

I don't see how the work itself cannot impact our ability to travel along the trail there, and I further fear that moving the bridge supports and relocating the railroad will wipe out the trail altogether.

This is the only hill-less path of travel I know of between Downtown and the North Hills. I'd sure hate to lose it.

Does anyone have any real information? I'm working exclusively from one news story and reading between the lines.

The trib, and that article are garbage.

What does the doughboy square intersection have to do with this? It is across the river and irrelevant.

I honestly cant imagine that there is not a master

plan that involves keeping the trails intact after

the county announced the riverfront park plan just

last year.

That said, the stretch of trail between the pedestrian bridge and 40th street bridge is not recognized as official. I imagine the longterm plan is a permanent rerouting onto herrs island

I think the Doughboy Square deals with detour routes once the construction begins. You have to admit, that intersection is pretty bizarre, regardless of your mode of transportation.

I was surprised that the PG didn't have anything about this, but I see that Joe Grata has retired (bought out, really).

there is also preliminary engineering an design already done on it that is also available from that link. basically its like a bridge that hugs the shoreline

I cross 40th street bridge and ride through Lawrenceville and the strip, I don't like taking my road bike along that trail. I really don't notice much of a difference riding back along Smallman st elevation wise, I just ride a little harder.

But either way, hopefully they don't mess it up, I jog on that trail if that counts.

I rode the North Shore trail from Millvale this morning. It appears the construction is complete (as in no need to detour onto River Avenue any longer.)
