Shadyside and nearby rides

I just moved to Pittsburgh this month, and want to ride with some people around the Shadyside area. I'm interested in rides weeknights after 5PM, and weekends anytime. I'd like to explore the bike-friendly roads and paths around here with some cyclists who know the area. I have a folding bike, which rides fine on roads and moderate trails. In NYC, I did some rides with a group called 'Times Up' that taught me how to ride the bridges and the best roads and paths for getting around the city. I'd love to hook up with similar rides, here.

Welcome to da 'Burgh.

I think you would enjoy & benefit from riding with the Flock of Cycles group. It's a fairly leisurely and social no-drop ride that does its best to follow rules of the road. I don't think they've officially started back up yet from their winter break but you could try checking their facebook page or web site, and this message board. Hopefully the rides will start again soon. They meet on Fridays (different times on different Fridays) beneath "Dippy" the dinosaur sculpture in front of the Natural History Museum. You can find lots of other rides via the calendar at the top of this web page, too.

I would check out team decaf. They have maps too, but they do a lot of city rides out of highland park on weeknights starting in april.

YOu buying a house? I sell them.

Thank you headloss, Pseudacris, and edmonds59 - for the welcome, and for the great ride pointers. I'm looking forward to the Flock of cycles rides, the Viking ride, and the decaf rides!

Lori, you've wandered onto a wonderful site with wonderful resources to help you learn your way by bike in Pittsburgh. I can highly recommend Flock of Cycles, and definitely check out the Viking Ride, if you are available. And keep monitoring this board. It's full of great ideas.
