Southside to Millvale

I am wondering a good way to get to Millvale, does the Northside trail go all the way there? I know it goes to Washington's Landing (below the 31st bridge). I went Spring Garden Ave last Saturday, that seems rather hilly and excessivley out of the way. I am trying to avoid Route 28. Any suggestions. Also if there is a trail there, can you explain to me how to get there, I have rode around that area but not found trail access.

Thanks!

It goes all the way to Millvale park under the 40th st bridge. The trail is a little rough from the 31st st bridge to the 40th, but it is passable. They are starting to work on the new elevated trail through there too.

My preferred path, although not quite the shortest, from southside, take the trail to smithfield, come across smithfield then left onto ft pitt blvd, right onto commonwealth, left into pt state park, trail over ft duquesne bridge, down to the trail and all the way to millvale.

Coming back the other way, take blvd of the allies instead of ft pitt.

The Northside trail goes almost the whole way there. You just have to go across the train tracks and under 28. I'm not sure what its like now with all the constuction going on. It may not be passable yet?

It's fine. North of Washington's Landing there are signs directing cyclists onto the "temporary" trail (close to the railroad tracks) while they work on the actual trail alignment.

I got through this morning on my skinny tired road bike.

The lovely construction gents have put a 'temporary trail' sign and path through the site, and were quite friendly when I went through there about a week ago.

Granted, it is gravel, and not crushed limestone, so bring something larger than 18mm…

Thanks to all who responded. Looks like I'll be exploring in the days to come.

I ride the trail daily from Millvale to Downtown and it is fine - even the "temporary" segment. The construction workers are very friendly.
