I love it! Time flies if you have a good teacher. Spinning hard to the beat. But, like anything else, you get out what you put in.... Because you set your own bike tension, it's an honestly system... I know many times I feel like I'm killing myself, and I see people faking it.

And it is hard. 4 count position changes with jumps, etc.... much better than just riding a stationary.

I mix once-a-week spinning with my in-home trainer. It's so much better to have other people around to break up the boredom of the trainer. It can be very enjoyable - good music, good people.

If you live nearby, try Body Tech in Aspinwall - they have a free class coupon on their website. If you like it, there's no obligation, no membership - buy spinning classes one-at-a-time or buy 12 and get a discount.

urban active has free classes for members, i believe. i may try it at some point this winter. when i was using cardio equipment this week, i noticed that all of the bikes were taken in the spin room. i am going to see if there are early morning classes. it's hard sometimes for me to consistently get to something in the evenings with my work hours.

What Shawn said. I visited a friend in the D.C. area a couple of years ago & went along with him to his Saturday spin class. I could barely keep up! Me, who was putting over 50 miles a week under me on a regular bicycle on real roads! So, yeah, you get a workout. Not at all boring, as I've found working out solo on an exercycle in the basement to be.

I just had my first one at Urban Active (they are indeed free with membership) - it's definitely a workout even for someone who rides all the time. Because the usual physics don't apply to a stationary bike, it hits a good number of muscles that you wouldn't use in real riding. Also, I have never sweat so much on bike before.

I go to Urban Active too and they mentioned to me that the spin room is available during non-class times. Just go to the front desk and ask them to start the program. Of course, that wouldn't be the same as having a good teacher and a packed room but you could get some people together to do it at a more convenient time.
