SS MTB gearing?

I'm collecting parts for a SS MTB. Any inputs as to what's good gearing around here? I'm closest to Frick Park, but would probably end up at North Park eventually too.

FWIW, I ride a compact 50/34 w/ an 11-28 on the road, and can/will climb anything in Pittsburgh (including the Dirty Dozen hills minus Canton Ave, although I haven't tried with this gear combo yet).

Oh, this is for a 29er btw.

32x19,20,21 or 22 on a 29er. I run 32x17 on a 26" wheel.

What Brad said.

I run 36x18 on my 26" wheeled SS. Mostly, I like it, but it can be a bit steep on longer climbs. I find it's great for Frick, but on longer rides at North Park, I'd like a lighter gear, like the standard 32x16.

36x18 and 32x16 are exactly the same. I'm pretty sure you know that.

Uh, apparently I do now. My gear foo is rusty.

EDIT: I am not crazy, I just misspoke: the SS is running 36x16, so those hills feel harder because of that, not because I'm weak like kitten.

Thanks all. :)

Now, to find my unicorn small frame w/ sliding dropouts...

I run a 32x18 on a 29er. Most everyone I know runs the same gear. I would suggest either a 32x18 or 19. A 32x20 at the lightest.

32x22 is way too easy of a gear for around here.
