Stating the obvious here, but......

I was sort of surprised when I went past the downtown motorcycle parking area this morning and it was EMPTY. Not one cycle. I thought at least one person would brave the weather (it was perfectly clear and dry when I went past).

An hour later, the street in front of it was snowcovered and very slippery.

I've been watching cars slip and slide through downtown for the better part of an hour now.

Be safe. Don't ride today. It's very slick, and drivers (and their cars) seem pretty unprepared.

There is a layer of ice under the snow. Be careful out there!

Man, I really have been salivating about riding in the snow. I've got a 45mm knobby on the front and have been wanting to ride around in Riverview, in the snow. You guys are causing me to second-guess my plan...

Wait for the storm to settle and go for a nice night ride.

I am glad I rode a fixed gear with 25 ribmos. Hoping this will get better In a few hours.

i'm glad i went for a ride yesterday.

but since i have to make a supply run tonight after work, i guess i'll fint out how useless my semi-slicks are with this white soon to be grey & salty funk on the ground.

I rode in, rode back early (got home about 1/2 hour ago), on totally unsuitable tires. But very little of my ride was in the streets. The cars are slipping like crazy, and unlike me didn't have the option to get out and push (which I did a little of on the Bates Street and blvd of the allies sidewalk). Panther Hollow sidewalk had been partially cleared and had some salt... woohoo!

Had a minor slip but caught myself before it became a fall. An interesting exercise riding at low speed and trying to be THAT aware of my balance. Major weak point for me, so it was either insane, good training, or a little of both. There were a couple uphill spots where I wanted to get back on the bike but didn't have enough traction to get rolling, so that was an interesting tidbit to experience too.

I am going to take sidewalks down to the north side trail from AGH. Then try to make it to the highland park bridge and take stars up to morningside. It was hailing last I was outside. But I think that walking and biking may be better than bus or car.

I was just on the Highland Park bridge (in a car), it's pathetically slow. Tons of people just abandoned cars all over the place too around Highland Park. Mindbottling.

Oh, I also saw a Pittsburgh Police officer riding his MTB up Highland Ave, I gave him a thumbs up but I don't think he saw.

Mindbottling? Thought it was mindboggling...but anyhow I think I might avoid the Strip trail as I am sure it is icy. Thinking I might stay on roads as they could be at least salted if not plowed.

You fell right into that one, as designed... :)

Rode in this morning before the snow started. The ride home in 2 hours looks to be entertaining, for a given value.

I would probably have been fine on something like, say, an el mariachi, but did not realize that until I was walking through the snow and pushing my bike to the bus stop. I was ok on the slush and the packed down snow, but my tires didn't do well on the trails where the snow was a few inches thick. I definitely have better bike handling skills than I thought. And stu would be happy- this is the first time I have used the bike rack on the bus (and maybe the third time ever I took the bus)! I am glad that the racks were available at the try-a-bikes to practice with.

I had fun riding in the storm, looking unsuccessfully for the tag. Worst was the attitude of the drivers. The normal rules of passing don't apply in the snow, for some reason. Snore tires make for a good time.
